“The Marsh King’s Daughter” is finally headed to the big screen. The adaptation of the bestselling 2017 novel by Karen Dionne, starring Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn and Garrett Hedlund, is due in theaters on Oct. 6, and the trailer has just arrived, still wet from the swamp. Watch it above.
Ridley plays a woman who, when she was a child (Brooklynn Prince plays her as a child), was abducted by her violent father (Mendelsohn). When he escapes from prison, she is forced to confront her past, open up to her husband (Hedlund) and brace herself for her father’s return. Will she make it out alive? Or will her father, nicknamed the Marsh King, take her down, once and for all?
The project was initially developed back in 2018, with “The Revenant” writer Mark L. Smith penning a screenplay for “The Imitation Game” director Morten Tyldum and Alicia Vikander in the role now played by Ridley.

Actor Tye Sheridan is wearing a different hat with his new media-tech startup — which he claims will let indie filmmakers deliver blockbuster-level VFX on a fraction of the budget.
Sheridan (above right) co-founded Wonder Dynamics with visual-effects artist Nikola Todorovic (above left). Over the last four years, the duo have been quietly experimenting with using artificial intelligence and machine learning to create interactive video applications. Now Wonder Dynamics is gearing up to introduce a new AI production tool that they promise will let independent artists produce dazzling VFX and CGI animations for far less than is required today.
“It breaks down the barriers to achieving your wildest vision,” Sheridan told Variety. “A lot of times people dream up this story but it’s not possible to make because it would cost $200 million. AI can democratize VFX.”

Emma Mackey, Joe Alwyn, Fionn Whitehead and Emily Beecham have boarded Emily Brontë’s origin story “Emily,” helmed and scripted by Frances O’Connor. Embankment has launched worldwide sales on the film.
In her script, O’Connor has imagined the transformative journey to womanhood of Brontë – a rebel and a misfit, and author of “Wuthering Heights.”
O’Connor, known for her extensive acting career including “Mansfield Park,” “Bedazzled,” “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” and “The Missing,” makes her directorial debut.
O’Connor said: “Emily Brontë’s work and words are full of passion, feeling, violence, and fierce intelligence. In creating an imagined life for Emily, she will live again for our audience. Her story is about a young woman daring to form herself, to embrace her true nature, despite the consequences. Emily is, in fact, a love letter to women today, especially young women, a calling to them to challenge themselves to connect...

The 2011 French buddy comedy “The Intouchables” was a surprise box-office hit, in part because the story of a wealthy, white paraplegic and the black assistant who becomes his close friend doesn’t exactly scream for commercial domination. Yet the movie became a bonafide cultural phenomenon in France, finding fans around the world in the process; its premise, inspired by the bonding of a French businessman Phillips Pozzo di Borgo and caregiver Abdel Sellou, provided an easy, formulaic template for celebrating a connection across race, class and age.
Some critics found its racial politics as problematic as “Driving Miss Daisy,” in that both ostensibly found a black man rescuing his bitter white superior from a grumpy, insular existence. That’s a classic trope of American cinema, so it was only a matter of time before “The Intouchables made its way to an English-language remake.

Never exactly the crown jewel in the dystopic cinematic Ya pyramid of The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner and The Divergent Series, from the beginning, the lattermost has over complicated intuitive class commentary, presented sub-text as text (rest assured, there is a line of dialogue about wolves and lambs within the first five minutes), and buried a crowd-pleasing story of anarchy in mountains of superfluous exposition.
By the end of Robert Schwenke’s The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Part 1, the third of four interminable installments, it’s clear that that expectation was misguided. The Divergent Series is now the equivalent of re-animated roadkill, a desiccated corpse that’s been revived one more time in the foolish suggestion that the same thing won’t repeat itself.
Allegiant starts immediately where the last movie ended, placing Tris (Shailene Woodley) on the precipice of mass revolution in Chicago as Evelyn (Naomi Watts) takes over...

Remember Limitless? The Bradley Cooper movie from 2011 about the guy with the brain and the drugs? Well, CBS just ordered a pilot based on it. Cooper is among many attached to executive produce, along with Neil Berger (the Limitless movie director), who will also helm the project. Although the pilot is based on the movie, it will feature a new character — Brian Sinclair — who taps into the powers of Nzt and is then forced to use his superhuman Mensa skills to solve weekly cases for the FBI. Yes, weekly, because time flies when you're using 100 percent of your brain.

CBS has ordered three new pilots, including an adaptation of a 2011 Bradley Cooper film that counts the Oscar nominee as an executive producer.
“Limitless,” originally a feature starring Cooper and Robert DeNiro, will hit the small screen steered by original director Neil Berger, Cooper and his “Hangover” director Todd Phillips.
The series will pick up where the film left off, following a man with access to a mysterious prescription drug that expands his mental capacity. In the show, the character uses his abilities to help the FBI solve crimes. The project has additional producers in Relativity honchos Ryan Kavanaugh and Tucker Tooley.

CBS’ latest pilot orders include an adaptation of the Bradley Cooper movie Limitless.
In the original 2011 thriller, Cooper starred as Eddie Morra, a writer who with the help of the experimental drug Nzt is able to access 100 percent of his mind, and in turn rockets to success in the financial world.
The TV take, penned by Craig Sweeny (Elementary, The 4400) and counting Cooper among its executive producers, follows a man who uses his newfound Nzt-enhanced abilities to (of course) solve weekly cases for the FBI.
Other EPs on the project include Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and director Neil Berger...

Maybe it.s all an issue of age and location, but any time someone I know starts talking about Neil Berger.s upcoming young adult adventure Divergent, it.s in reference to how goofy the trailers look and how sick they are of such Ya tentpoles. But apparently people are having different kinds of conversations around the country, particularly when pre-ordering movie tickets, as Fandango reports Divergent.s first day of ticket presales outpaced the first Twilight film, making it one of Fandango.s biggest first day sellers ever. Just how big was the presale? Over half of the site.s preordained ticket count was bought up in just its first day, and assuming the film will open on over 3,000 theaters as most wide releases do, that means roughly 1,500 theaters sold out in mere hours. It was outselling the second place holder by a margin of five tickets to one.

At last update, four actors (Lucas Till, Luke Bracey, Brenton Thwaites and Jack Reynor) were being tested for the role Tobias "Four" Eaton in Neil Berger's book-to-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth's Divergent. Now, it looks like the studio is giving two more guys a shot at the role. According to Variety, Till will join Alex Pettyfer and Jeremy Irvine for a second test for the role this week. View slideshow: 'Divergent' 'Four' contenders: Alex Pettyfer, Jeremy Irvine and Lucas Till Till, who recently starred in X-Men: First Class, is the only holdover from the first batch, but Variety reports that he may be disadvantaged by being so tied up with other film commitments to ultimately snag it. Pettyfer, of course, starred in I Am Number Four (appropriate, right?) and Magic Mike and has been long predicted to be on his way to the big time, given the right property.

Clearly intent on cornering the market on young adult franchises taken from books, Twilight team Summit Entertainment (which merged with Hunger Games company Lionsgate) is pushing ahead to make the first in a planned set of films based on Veronica Ruth’s Divergent series. Now Limitless director Neil Berger is in early talks to handle the shot-calling chores.Summit grabbed up the rights to all three of Roth’s planned books before the first one was even published. Divergent arrived in May 2011. Insurgent, the sequel, was published in May of this year. Fans will have to wait for the still-untitled third tome, scheduled to hit in autumn 2013.The Hunger Games comparisons are inevitable, as Divergent takes place in a dystopian future where the world is split into factions, and since it features a teenage hero. We’re introduced to Beatrice “Tris” Prior, born in Chicago as part of the Abnegation faction,...
