"This place... it's like a puzzle. Nothing really makes sense in the way we know it..." Max has revealed a teaser trailer for an animated sci-fi series called Scavengers Reign, created by animation filmmakers Joe Bennett & Charles Huettner based on their own short. This exquisite adventure is about a crew exploring a "hostile world allowed to thrive without human interference" on an "unforgiving alien planet." The visuals in this are absolutely incredible! While this look is common in graphic novels, I don't think we've ever seen anything like this on screen. The voice cast features Wunmi Mosaku, Bob Stephenson, Sunita Mani, Ted Travelstead, and Alia Shawkat. After their deep-space freighter is damaged, the stranded crew of the Demeter crash down on a beautiful yet dangerous planet. As the group uncovers the true nature of this place, they must do everything in their power to survive long enough to escape or be rescued.

Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are bringing their next animated series to Adult Swim.
The King of the Hill creators’ Bandera Entertainment is behind Common Side Effects, a half-hour series about people’s “complex reactions to the revelation of the mysterious elixir of life.” Joe Bennett (Fxx’s Cake, Max’s upcoming Scavengers Reign) and Steve Hely (Veep, American Dad) created the show, which Adult Swim announced Friday at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
“Tonally, this is like nothing else in animation right now, so we knew immediately that Common Side Effects belonged on Adult Swim,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, Cartoon Network and Boomerang. “Mike, Greg and this entire team have such deep pedigrees in the comedy and animation worlds, and this new series will tackle everything from government corruption to the pharmaceutical industry through their unique and hilarious perspectives.”

Ed Sheeran won a copyright infringement trial on Thursday, and so has music itself, at least according to some music copyright experts.
With Sheeran coming away victorious in the much-publicized “Thinking Out Loud”/ “Let’s Get It On” trial, music copyright experts tell Rolling Stone they’re hopeful the decision will chill what they describe as frivolous lawsuits going forward, as the verdict tells those looking to sue that winning out isn’t so simple.

Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, the duo who brought us "King of the Hill," are collaborating on a brand new adult animated series that will be developed by Peacock (via The Hollywood Reporter). Judge and Daniels have significant comedy credits to their name — while Daniels is recognized for the U.S. version of "The Office," co-creating "Parks and Recreation," and writing for "The Simpsons," Judge is known for shows like "Beavis and Butt-Head" and "Silicon Valley," among others.
The screenwriters' animation company Bandera is getting ready to go into business with Peacock, and if "Best Buds" receives a series order, it would be the streamer's first adult animated show. Here's all we know about it.
An Animated Series For Adults
Lately, animation has become an excellent tool for storytellers to break past the boundaries drawn by live-action. Streamers can employ animation to create both mature and profound content with detailed depictions of adult themes.

If you want to know what the future of the MCU looks like, just look at what Marvel Comics is publishing right now. As a general rule, whatever is being prioritized in Marvel’s publishing wing is usually a good indicator of which way the wind is blowing for their Marvel Studios counterparts over the next few years. Sometimes this takes the form of which storylines are suddenly being reprinted in prestigious collected editions, while others it’s about the launch of new series which position old characters, titles, and trademarks in prominent ways. Whether it’s Sam Wilson becoming Captain America or Jane Foster becoming Thor, the Marvel Comics events of today are often the MCU milestones of tomorrow.
And Marvel isn’t messing around with big event stories right now, announcing a whopping eight titles that all should feel very familiar to fans who enjoy speculation about the next evolution of the MCU.

When it comes to comic books, the natural thought most of us have is that of costumed heroes and villains with otherworldly superpowers. No matter where you go for your entertainment—be it movies, television, or video games—it won't take long to come across any of the characters we've all come to know from the "Big 2" Publishers.
While superheroes may be the bread and butter of the industry, what about the other stories of comics? Ones that are on the darker, spookier side of lore?
Horror in comics is hardly a new concept, dating back as far as the beginning of the Golden Age of the 1940s and ’50s. At that time, most were adaptations of popular fiction works such as Eerie Comics' New Adventures of Frankenstein and Classic Comics' Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The genre really found its footing when EC Comics introduced the world to what...

DC of late have been putting out a lot of 80th Anniversary one off specials to celebrate some of their big name characters. They’ve been well received, and it seems Marvel wants some of that goodness too. Their approach, though, is pretty different. Whereas DC tapped some big names to do short stories for their issues, usually ten or so, Marvel here have decided to re-tell some of the big Captain America storylines from the past. We get the first ever Captain America story, from March 1941, in Captain America issue 1 by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, plus the first Red Skull appearance from that same issue. We also get Cap’s return from deep freeze in Avengers issue 4, March 1964. The hook here is Marvel has asked...

Comic books aren’t required reading for fans of Marvel movies and TV shows, but they are a great way to dive that much deeper into the origin stories of the superheroes permeating the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Now that “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” has officially premiered on Disney+, the timing is perfect to catch up on some of the comic books revolving around the dynamic duo. The series’ pilot finds Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) embarking on a new adventure, in the midst of dealing with some personal issues. The six-episode series, which debuted on March 19, is directed by Kari Skogland with Malcolm Spellman serving as head writer.

"It's like they were trying to blend in." Check out this short film from animation filmmaker Joe Bennett, a strange animated trip into the world of Park Rangers. With an appearance by Bigfoot, too! Just wait until you see him. Derecho is a 10 minute short film, featured by Vimeo. It was originally presented by Cake on FX. As a slow building terror builds at a lonely park ranger outpost, two rangers are forced to test the limits of their humanity. Featuring the voices of Kate Berlant, John Early, Ted Travelstead, and Felipe di Poi Tamargo. The animation style is quite unique and it gets even better when the dashes of red show up. This is a must-watch-until-the-very-end short film, it all makes more sense once you get through it. Beware. Thanks to Vimeo Staff Picks for the tip on this release. Word of mouth on this book has been blistering hot at times, and I am annoyed that apart from the occasional peek at individual issues I haven’t found time to sit down and read through the run. The Alex Ross covers I have noticed though, and they’ve been worth the price of admission alone. What made me pick this one up and review it is that people I know were getting irritated with me that I hadn’t, The cover, and the fact it guest stars both Alpha Flight and the U-Foes. I’m a man who knows what he likes, and likes what he knows, and those things ticked the boxes. So, as a reader coming in for the first (ish) time, will this all make sense? is Ewing newbie friendly, or just writing for the already following?...

This month has been a big one for Simpsons/Marvel crossovers. Earlier in March, The Simpsons aired an episode, titled “Bart the Bad Guy,” featuring a parody of the Avengers movies, guest starring directors Anthony and Joe Russo and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige as Thanos-like villain Chinnos. This week, it seems Marvel Comics has decided to return the favor as Bart Simpson and friends have made a surprise cameo in the latest issue of Immortal Hulk.
First, some context: Immortal Hulk #32 continues the threat of the Living Hulk Xemnu as he manipulates the general public into believing that he’s the beloved star of children’s show Magic Planet and the world’s favorite version of the Green Goliath, with the actual Hulk painted as a feared monster. The Infected: King Shazam deals with the ramifications of a Billy Batson turned evil.
Sina Grace has horror in his blood. Or at least in his mental infrastructure. Al Ewing will take over a new Guardians of the Galaxy series for Marvel.
With Donny Cates taking over the writing duties on Thor, there was room for a new writer to pick up Guardians of the Galaxy. And at Marvel's Next Big Thing panel at New York Comic Con, the new team was announced: Juan Cabal (Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man) on art, and Al Ewing (Immortal Hulk) writing.
Ewing is currently lighting the world on fire with Joe Bennett on Immortal Hulk. The book is the first to go full monster movie with Bruce Banner's alter-ego in some time, and it's by far the most successful because there are enormous helpings of body and psychological horror added in. It is weird and discomforting and gorgeous and easily one of the best things Marvel has published this decade.

The Batman Who Laughs has turned six DC superheroes into dark reflections of themselves...
Picking up where The Batman Who Laughs left off, Batman/Superman kicks off at the end of August promising to infect heroes from around the DC Universe with dark multiverse Joker venom. But the identities of the infected have been mostly hidden, until now.
We already knew that the first one to catch giggles would be Shazam, from a fantastically creepy preview. The Batman Who Laughs grabs Billy Batson and nicks him with an infected Batarang, then dresses him up like a Robin and sets him loose on the heroes.
He's going to be getting a one shot in November examining the impact of the Joker venom. Sina Grace, writer of the best pre-Hickman X-book, Iceman, is writing the one shot (titled The Infected: King Shazam), with art from The Immortal Hulk's Joe Bennett.

Once again we try and predict this year's Eisner Awards winners. Once again, we're probably entirely wrong.
Happy Comic-Con Eve, all! Welcome back to another installment of Panel Discussion, this time featuring Dan’s top picks for this week in comics.
Before I get into what this article is I need to get into what it is not. First I am basing this list not off of my thoughts on each issue rather my expectations. Based on my knowledge of the creators, the series, and in some cases just the concepts I created a list of five comics I am most looking forward to this new comic book day.
Also, this is not a speculation article. I am not saying these comics are ‘Key’ issues you can flip in eBay. Ultimately when I walk into my local comic shop on New Comic Book Day these are the five books I am most looking forward to reading. I will try to balance it out by including some concerns I have with each issue as well.

1985: Santa Barbara's Mason interrupted C.C. and Gina's wedding.
1993: All My Children's Kendall Hart arrived in Pine Valley.
1994: All My Children's Maria and Edmund were married.

Weekly comic book events rarely work out well. It is one thing to have a story that crossover from series to series, but when you have a self-contained book with one writer and a group of artist the time crunch can lead to some mediocre work.
