Marvel’s Fantastic Four has lived through several iterations. In 1994, the first ambitious Fantastic Four life-action was made starring Alex Hyde-White, Rebecca Staab, and Jay Underwood, with Joseph Culp playing Doctor Doom. However, the movie was never released. While the Chris Evans-starrer Fantastic Four movie series was popular among fans, there was an attempt from Fox to reboot the franchise in 2015 with a roster of a talented cast.

Exclusive: Sundance documentary Never Look Away, the directorial debut of actress Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), has been sold by XYZ to Greenwich Entertainment for all rights in North America, and to Kaleidoscope for all rights in UK.
Both distributors have committed to theatrical releases in the territories. Kaleidoscope will also take over rest of world sales. The film is set to have additional screenings at SXSW this weekend.
The film puts a spotlight on the late, swashbuckling CNN combat camerawoman, Margaret Moth, who risked it all to put the viewer inside the conflict. When a fateful injury got in the way of her appetite for danger and adrenaline, she had a decision to make about her career and survival.
Pic was produced by Matthew Metcalfe of Gfc Films, Tom Blackwell and Lawless, and was written by Metcalfe, Blackwell, Lawless and Whetham Allpress. XYZ Films is executive-producing.

Exclusive: Louis McCartney describes himself as “a West End baby” because before he was cast to play boyish-looking monster Henry Creel in the Stranger Things stage show The First Shadow, he’d never performed on stage in his life.
“They were coaching me how to speak properly, how to project my voice,” McCartney says of the countless recalls he endured during the auditioning process.
The key was: Could McCartney play “the sweet little by whose mum loved him” who also happens to be “a killer” who’s “psychiatric at heart.”
McCartney nails it all with one of the most breathtaking debut performances in the West End.
The show’s director, Stephen Daldry, remembers seeing McCartney out of the corner of his eye during an open casting call. The lad from Belfast was sitting quietly in a corner when Daldry remarked to casting director Jessica Ronane and dialect coach William Conacher,...

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is cast as Marvel’s new Ben Grimm / The Thing in the upcoming film, The Fantastic Four. Before The Bear actor was tasked with the role in the MCU, Michael Bailey Smith, Carl Ciarfalio, Michael Chiklis, and Jamie Bell played the role in earlier live-action movies. However, Marvel did one thing right with Moss-Bachrach’s casting from the earlier iterations, as they appropriately cast a Jewish actor in the role.

In Marvel Comics, Benjamin Grimm is Jewish and first revealed his identity in an emotional moment. Jack Kirby, who created the character, modeled Ben after himself and named him after his father Benjamin Kurtzberg.

“Close Your Eyes,” which picked up best picture and best director, revolves around the mysterious disappearance of a Spanish actor during the filming of a movie. It’s castin’ time.
On Valentine’s Day, Marvel Studios finally confirmed months of speculation and rumors by revealing the cast of the brand’s upcoming reboot of “The Fantastic Four.” Officially aboard the future superhero blockbuster as Marvel’s first family is Pedro Pascal (playing Reed Richards a.k.a Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (as Sue Storm a.k.a. Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (as Johnny Storm a.k.a Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (as Ben Grimm a.k.a. The Thing). Those four actors have been connected to the project by informed online speculation since last summer.
To announce its cast, Marvel posted a retro poster that calls back to the Fantastic Four’s comic origins in 1961. Whether the film itself will serve as a period piece, which would make it an outlier in the official Marvel Cinematic Universe, is unknown at present time.

Marvel Studios has its “Fantastic Four.”
The superhero quartet — the first characters created for Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby — will be played by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (aka the Thing).
As part of the casting announcement, Disney has swapped the release dates of “The Fantastic Four” and “Thunderbolts”. Those are two of four Marvel tentpoles currently set to open in 2025, along with “Captain America: Brave New World” in February and “Blade” in November. Four Marvel films are also scheduled for 2026, including “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” That’s a ramp up from 2024: Marvel only has “Deadpool & Wolverine” for theaters, on July 26.

The first "Fantastic Four" comic book was published in November 1961, although it wasn't until issue #3 that the comics regularly came emblazoned with the superlative declaration "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine!" No one protested. The goal of the Fantastic Four was to tap into the natural enormity of comic book superhero stories: These were larger-than-life characters going on cosmic adventures and doing battle with planet-eating alien demigods. The very bodies of the titular Four were reminiscent of the four elements: One was made of stone, one was made of fire, one had a liquid-like body, and one was invisible like air.
And yet, through the melodramatic opera of their adventures, the Fantastic Four had appealingly banal personal lives. Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman struggled to make their marriage work. The Human Torch and the Thing bickered constantly. The fact that the Human Torch was the Invisible Woman's brother only complicated matters.

Warning: this piece contains spoilers for All Of Us Strangers.
If you're reading this through a haze of tears, you're not alone. Even mentioning All of Us Strangers is enough to make a person sob as if they’re watching Andrew Haigh's masterpiece again for the very first time. And that's rather fitting given the curious way this film plays with chronology. Whether it's the grief or queer trauma or a heady mix of the two that resonates with you most, All of Us Strangers is a story that will always be on your mind in some way, the kind that shifts how you perceive the world. But how you even perceive the film itself can also shift depending on different factors.
One thing that can be agreed on is that this loose yet touching adaptation of Strangers, a Japanese novel by Taichi Yamada, is essentially two love stories in one.

There’s something inherently a little unsettling about a tower block. And that’s particularly true of the glistening edifices of modern London, with enormous windows, uninspired furnishing, and even less personality than a geography teacher convention. In Andrew Haigh‘s new drama All of Us Strangers, one of these tower blocks becomes pure purgatory – a cavernous liminal space in which two lonely men are trapped, at least until they can find each other.
Haigh simply doesn’t make noisy films. With the likes of Weekend and 45 Years, he has proven adept at telling smart, human stories about relationships at very different stages. In some ways, his work lives in those liminal, uncertain spaces. All of Us Strangers, which combines Haigh’s trademark thoughtful humanity with lashings of ghost story, is no different and is as fascinating as it is desperately painful.

The exact weekend location number is to be confirmed; should it be above the 777 sites of James Bond film No Time To Die from 2021, it would be the widest opening ever in UK-Ireland cinemas.

Charles Melton hasn’t had a great week. First, he missed out on the BAFTA longlist for Best Supporting Actor. Then, he was snubbed by the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards in their list of official nominees. The two notable omissions have damaged Melton’s chances of an Oscar nomination for his breakout role in Todd Haynes‘ exquisite “May December.”
The Netflix movie follows Natalie Portman as an actress who visits a couple (Julianne Moore and Melton) to do research on them for a film based on the couple’s past scandal. The scandal in question revolves around the couple’s initial affair, which began when the woman was in her 30s and the boy was only 13. As the man — Joe — Melton delivers one of the most heartbreaking performances of the year. Though January is notorious as a movie “dumping ground” with several forgettable big studio releases (often a mediocre horror flick), it’s also when many of the “indie” studios give a wide release to some of their “award hopefuls”, after getting a quickie end-of-the-year Oscar-qualifying “run’ on both of the coasts. And that’s surely the case with this thought-provoking and conversation-starting motion picture. All Of US Strangers (the title is appropriately vague) takes us into a dreamy “netherworld’ for 105 minutes, before sending us back into the jolting harsh reality. The focus of the film is an aspiring writer named Adam (Andrew Scott) who is nearly numb from the routine of “cocooning” in his comfy condo (or it may be an apartment) in a brand-new high-rise on the outskirts of London. Ah, but he’s been noticed by a neighbor, a friendly fellow named Harry (Paul Mescal) who knocks on Adam’s door,...

Few Marvel characters are more qualified to traverse the space-time continuum — and tell a few meta jokes at its expense — than Deadpool. The Merc with a Mouth is notoriously averse to the constraints of reality, and that's just one of the many reasons why his big-screen adventures have been so much fun. Fox's "Deadpool" films have toyed with the anti-hero's wanton fourth wall breaking, nonlinear storytelling style, and affinity for time travel in delightfully irreverent fashion. It's allowed star and producer Ryan Reynolds the opportunity to poke fun at aspects of his career that fans have tried to forget, but it also gives audiences the chance to laugh at some of the silliest parts of the superhero industrial complex.
With the advent of Marvel's multiverse, Deadpool's exploits have only gotten more ambitious. Still, there are some choices too weird to make it to the final cut. The team behind the...

“All of Us Strangers” is praised for its wistful same-sex romance, but writer/director Andrew Haigh also credits Frankie Goes to Hollywood and the Pet Shop Boys. In fact, he wouldn’t start production until he knew the film had the music rights.
“I think almost every single song that comes out was scripted,” he told IndieWire. “I knew what that music was before I even started, and I made sure we got the rights to it before we started. Everything was sort of designed with that in mind. [The movie] is about the power of music, weirdly, to drag us back into the past.”
For Adam (Andrew Scott), the songs he chooses to play are as telling as the eerie silence that fills his apartment building, empty save for his neighbor and soon-to-be lover, Harry (Paul Mescal). Their relationship ends with a gut punch, but the final, devastating moment finds them...

American Fiction outperformed expectations by landing three nominations, including best ensemble, while the edgy May December and Saltburn and a trio of non-English-language contenders — Past Lives, Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest — were completely shut out, and Killers of the Flower Moon’s Leonardo DiCaprio was passed over, when SAG-AFTRA announced the nominees for its 2024 SAG Awards on Wednesday morning.
Does any of this matter for those with Oscar nominations on their mind?
SAG Awards film nominations are determined by the vote of a nominating committee comprising 2,500 randomly selected members of the roughly 160,000-member guild. As a result, SAG Award nominees tend to be more populist but less international than the eventual selections of the actors branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (whose own nomination voting will begin Thursday and runs through next Tuesday).

Elisabeth Moss is hard at work on her upcoming movie Shell and she’s reuniting with The Handmaid’s Tale co-star Max Minghella for the new project!
The Emmy-winning actress was spotted alongside Haim‘s Este Haim while walking around set on Monday (January 8) in Los Angeles.
It’s unclear if Este has joined the project or if she is just visiting set.
In Shell, struggling actress Samantha (Moss) is given an opportunity to get a free trial at Shell, a pioneering health and beauty company which promises to keep its clients looking young forever. Samantha’s life and career is transformed by the treatment, and she develops a burgeoning friendship with Shell’s CEO, the ultra-glamorous Zoe Shannon (Kate Hudson). When a string of former Shell patients go missing under mysterious circumstances, including popular social media star Chloe Benson (Kaia Gerber), Samantha starts to fear she may be in danger herself.

The powerful emotions of loneliness, loss and the spirit of memory that run through “All of Us Strangers” spoke volumes to cinematographer Jamie Ramsay.
Written and directed by Andrew Haigh, the movie stars Andrew Scott as Adam, a gay screenwriter who lives alone. A chance encounter with Harry (Paul Mescal) leads to a relationship and triggers memories for Adam, who finds himself in a fantastical world when he visits his childhood home and sees his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) 30 years after they died in a car accident.
Ramsay needed to represent the concept of isolation and loneliness of Adam’s character, while maintaining warmth.
Ramsay lit Adam’s day-to-day world in a straightforward manner.
“But when he goes back to his parents, that’s when the lighting starts to develop this ethereal sense, and the ghost of the past starts to affect his real life.”

If there’s one takeaway from the LGBTQ narrative films that came into the world and across our screens this year, it’s the sheer variety of the stories there are to tell.
From real-world historical biopics and inspirational sports dramas, to tender love stories and raunchy comedies, there really was something for everyone this year. Captivating characters, fearless performances and narrative tapestries that defy convention and troublesome tropes all reigned supreme. As such, here are some of the best we got.

Writer and director Andrew Haigh’s latest is a deeply personal tale, one that explores the parent/child relationship in a moving way. All of Us Strangers examines the lonely life of Adam (Andrew Scott), a screenwriter living in a near abandoned building. One of his few neighbors is Harry (Paul Mescal), a mysterious fellow who shows up one night at Adam’s door. All the while, Adam has been visiting his parents home and spending time with his deceased Mom (Claire Foy) and Dad (Jamie Bell) who seem to be alive and well, and the same age as their adult son.
All of Us Strangers is a terrific film, one with excellent performances all around. We recently spoke with the film’s Mom and Dad, Jamie Bell and Claire Foy, about their work in the new feature. The two discussed working with Andrew, and finding their relationship with Adam within the script and film.

Croydon has long been cold-shouldered on both the big and small screen – even films set there were shot elsewhere. But with the awards-tipped All of Us Strangers, the unloved south London borough finds itself hot property
As well as the awards already won by Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers, it can lay claim to a less-obvious prize – the first feature film both set and filmed in Croydon.
Haigh shot much of the film in and around his old childhood home in Sanderstead, a pleasant leafy suburb to the south of Croydon, where I too grew up, eight doors down from Haigh. Andrew Scott’s character, Adam, and his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) are also shown visiting the shopping centre at the heart of the south London town.

Please Note: This forecast, assembled by Scott Feinberg, The Hollywood Reporter’s executive editor of awards coverage, reflects Scott’s best attempt to predict the behavior of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, not his personal preferences. He arrives at these projections by drawing upon conversations with voters and other industry insiders, analysis of marketing and awards campaigns, results of awards ceremonies that precede the Oscars, and the history of the Oscars itself. There will be regular updates to reflect new developments.

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2023, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
The greatest year in cinema since the monumental offerings of 2007––a transformative year that set the seeds for this very site to come into existence––2023 offered a resounding affirmative that indeed the medium is alive and well: auteurs flexing what they do best, newcomers providing a hopeful voice for the future of filmmaking, along with a plethora of worthwhile offers. Along with my personal favorites when it came to U.S. releases, two films also premiered that would’ve topped this list had they come out in 2023: Bertrand Bonello’s The Beast and Víctor Erice’s still-shockingly-undistributed Close Your Eyes.
While they didn’t make the top 15 cut below, I must make mention for the most essential, one-and-done viewing of the year with De Humani Corporis...

Actress Claire Foy is ready and braced for a lot of personal reactions to her latest film All of Us Strangers. Adapted from Taichi Yamada’s novel Strangers, writer-director Andrew Haigh’s emotional reimagining finds gay screenwriter Adam (Andrew Scott) working on a script inspired by a devastating personal tragedy: in the early ’80s, both his parents died in a car crash when he was just 12. Seeking inspiration, Adam travels back to his childhood neighborhood where he encounters his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) — not only still living in his former home but looking exactly the same as the last time he saw them.
Deadline: How did you first hear about All of Us Strangers?
Claire Foy: It was actually three or four months before we started shooting. One of my agents, Billy Lazarus, had a very, very emotional response to it, and I knew that it was something quite special.

Two Indian films Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire and Dunki buoyed the North American box office on a relatively quiet holiday weekend as Searchlight Pictures’ All Of Us Strangers had a solid per-screen openings and Poor Things a nice expansion.
From Tollywood to Bollywood, this was a one-two-punch illustrating the key role of Indian films at the U.S. box office, especially this weekend as Christmas shopping and Christmas Eve slowed theater traffic.
Telugu film Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire opened at $5.48 million on 802 screens to a no. 5 spot in North America. Distributed in the U.S. by Moksha Movies and Pathyangira Cinemas. The action pic directed by Prashanth Neel stars Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu.
And Dunki from Yas Raj Films, starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Raju Hirani, grossed an estimated $3.59 million on 686 screens for the no. ten spot. The estimate through Sunday is $4.8 million.

Unlike the scores of paranormal investigators on reality TV, Andrew Haigh has made a career as a successful cinematic ghosthunter, chasing after entities whose presence is unquestionably felt.
The British filmmaker’s apparitions take the forms of suppressed pain, unresolved trauma, unspoken resentment, and earth-shattering secrets in movies often, though not exclusively, focused on romantic (gay) relationships. In his latest drama, All of Us Strangers, loosely adapted from Taichi Yamada’s 1987 novel Strangers, those specters from his main character’s past are more literal than ever before.
