Met actor Joseph Schildkraut while he was performing in the play 'Peer Gynt". An aspiring actress, she had come to see him about a role in the play. He proposed the day they met and married her a week later at Philadelphia's City Hall.

Grew unhappy with her marriage to Schildkraut and disillusioned with her acting career, turning heavily to alcohol. Her marriage to Schildkraut ended in 1930 and she married twice more before dying in 1947 of delirium tremens.
