, original name Tabarruk Ahmed, was born on September 15, 1941 on Agamosi Lane, old Dhaka.
He won the National Film Award of Bangladesh three times in Best Actor category for his roles in

He made his debut on the small screen in 1968.

, where he acted in a supporting role as Lebu.
Bulbul embarked on his own journey as an actor through stage drama in 1965.
He worked as a banker from 1965 till 1975.
Bulbul drew his inspiration through peeping at the rehearsal of his father Khalil Ahmed, who was a government employee and an amateur actor.
His directorial debut was
Rajlokkhi Srikanto (1987)
for which he received National Film Award of Bangladesh as the Best Director.
