It’s a good day for fans of Idris Elba’s nail-biting limited series “Hijack.”
Apple TV+ has confirmed that Elba is set to return as negotiator Sam Nelson in a second season of the high-octane drama, which quickly became one of the streamer’s top shows when it dropped last year.
Told almost in real-time, the series follows Nelson on a seven-hour plane ride from Dubai to London which is hijacked by terrorists. A seasoned negotiator, Nelson quickly steps in to try and diffuse the situation before anyone gets killed – but soon realizes there is more to the hijackers’ plot than first seems. Archie Panjabi, Christine Adams, Max Beesley and Ben Miles also starred.
“I was floored by the overwhelming audience response after Season 1,” Elba said. “It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson, but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!

"You are my student. And I am your teacher. That's all..." Lionsgate has unveiled the trailer for Miller's Girl, which is set to open in January after a premiere at the 2024 Palm Springs Film Festival that month. It's a romantic entanglement between teacher and student psychological thriller from a screenwriter making her directorial debut. The short synopsis: A creative writing assignment yields complex results between a teacher and his talented student. "As lines blur & lives intertwine, professor and protégé must confront their darkest selves while straining to preserve their individual sense of purpose and the things they hold most dear." Oh boy, this sounds spicy. Jenna Ortega stars with Martin Freeman as the professor, plus a cast including Dagmara Domińczyk, Bashir Salahuddin, Gideon Adlon, & Christine Adams. This looks so cliche and obvious, I bet everyone knows exactly what's going to happen without even having to watch it. // Continue Reading ›...

Imitation is the sincerest form of television, but some aspects of hit shows are easier to imitate than others. Fox’s 24, for instance, inspired other dramas built around international intrigue, most notably Homeland (which shared several producers). But nobody else attempted to set an entire series in real time. Oh, you’d occasionally see a show do a real-time episode, like the online-ordering fiasco from The Bear Season One, but no one has been brave or foolish enough to attempt it on a regular basis.
It’s not hard to understand why.

Were it not for, you know, its terror-at-35,000-feet concept, Apple TV+’s Hijack would be the TV equivalent of a classic plane read: slick, exciting, unfussy. As it stands, it’s ideal for a lazy weekend planted firmly on the couch. Creators George Kay (Lupin) and Jim Field Smith (Litvinenko) may not be pushing the bounds of the medium, nor is star Idris Elba elevating his craft to new heights. But there’s something to be said for a show that knows exactly what it wants to be, and pulls it off without pretension.
Its premise is as straightforward as its title. Unfolding in real time, 24-style, the seven-hour miniseries chronicles a seven-hour flight from Dubai to London. By the end of the first chapter, a small group of nefarious agents, led by the sneering Stuart (Neil Maskell), have taken control of the plane. Over the next six, the...

Review: Idris Elba has proven himself to be a multi-hyphenate powerhouse who can provide voice-over for animated fare, play a superhero, perform action in genres ranging from science fiction to fantasy, and even get some laughs in comedies. Elba is even an experienced DJ. The gun can do no wrong, and while his filmography is jammed with diverse projects, the instant I started watching Hijack, I knew the creative team brought him on board because of his voice. Idris Elba has a presence that few actors are capable of, and that gravitas helps rescue Hijack from being a bust. Told in a real-time approach, Hijack is a tense thriller about a plane...

The confined space of airplanes, along with the assortment of strangers stuffed inside them and the looming potential for catastrophe, has always made them the ideal setting for a nail-biting thriller. The latest entry in the canon is Hijack, which follows a commercial flight traveling from Dubai to London that is, you guessed it, hijacked.
The journey is shown over the course of the series’s seven hour-long episodes, allowing us to witness how events play out in real time. Inside the plane, Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) and his fellow passengers concoct a series of schemes to try and outfox the terrorists, while, on the ground below, politicos and police race against the clock to figure out what to do about it.
Like many modern television shows, Hijack probably should have been a feature film, a format that’s a more natural fit for this brand of claustrophobic thriller. Even...

ABC is passing on its pilots.
The network has passed on Anthony Anderson-fronted Public Defenders and Ellie Kemper-led Keeping It Together, which is a remake of British comedy Motherland, as well as dramas The Hurt Unit, starring Melissa George and Ben McKenzie, and Judgement starring Sex/Life’s Sarah Shahi.
ABC Signature is, however, planning to shop The Hurt Unit to other networks and platforms, while 20th Television will be shopping Public Defenders and Judgement.
The move comes as it still has decisions to make on series Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds as well as The Good Lawyer, which was a backdoor pilot spinoff of The Good Doctor.
Last month, ABC handed a series order to Drew Goddard’s pilot High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson. The project, which is based on the popular French detective series Hip, was the clear front-runner all development season.

"We got one job to do right now - just get through it for them." Apple has unveiled a trailer for the thriller series Hijack. Much like the movie Plane from earlier this year, this remarkably simple title does indeed hint that the series is about a hijacking on a plane. Because, you know, what else could you call a hijacking thriller other than just Hijack? Told in real time, this tense thriller follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour flight, and as authorities on the ground scramble for answers. Starring and executive produced by SAG Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Idris Elba, Hijack was created by George Kay ("Lupin") and Jim Field Smith. It’s Passenger 57 meets 24. Or perhaps just 24. Idris Elba stars in a new series from AppleTV+ called Hijack. The title pretty much cues you in on the concept. A group of terrorists takes over a seven-hour flight. What they want is not yet revealed, but they have allies on the ground that are helping to make their demands. However, something they didn’t count on is an experienced business negotiator already on the flight. This negotiator, portrayed by Elba, is preparing to deal with them…in more ways than one. The show takes during the events surrounding the seven-hour international flight and will be told in real-time.

Great Scott! The Mandalorian served up a “Special” guest star or three with the sixth episode of Season 3.
The episode title, “Guns For Hire,” referred to what Bo-Katan’s Nite-Owl pals are now up to, but it just as much could be a nod to the many unannounced guest stars, which rolled out throughout what was arguably — faint praise alert? — the best episode of the season, directed by franchise vet Bryce Dallas Howard. (Our full recap is coming soon, Sir Grogu!)

The Unholy is a horror movie directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It is based on the novel written by James Herbert.
A supernatural horror film about miracles and apparitions, with a lot of religion (Catholic this time) and some clichés that work in lightweight horror films that work in a film that treads a firm ground without any risks…
Plot of The Unholy
A journalist with no scruples on the hunt for a scoop runs into the miracle of an apparition… and something else.
Movie Review The Unholy (2021)
If you like religion themed films, then this one is just about okay, it has its film touch (a little too much if you have watched movies for some time). It has touches of The Exorcist, apparitions like in The Ring and many others. Here and there, reputed screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos directs his first feature film cleverly but staying...

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from tonight’s series finale of The CW’s Black Lightning.
On Monday, Black Lightning came to the end of its four-season run on the CW, signing off with a passing of the torch.
When series finale “The Book of Resurrection: Chapter Two: Closure” opens, it looks like our hero Black Lightning (Cress Williams)—aka Jefferson Pierce—might soon be shuffling off this mortal coil. Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) has the superhero right where he wants him—namely, in a coffin buried underground.
Fear not, though. In the end, Black Lightning is able to escape by harnessing his powers in a way he’s never been able to before. Tobias, meanwhile, ends up dead, after he’s thrown out his office window, impaled and electrocuted by Black Lightning.
