With American Idol Season 22 in full swing, Katy Perry is already feeling the ire of viewers across the U.S.
Shortly after Sunday’s season premiere kicked off, fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to give their verdict on the episode, and many took issue with Perry consistently telling viewers she thinks they are in the top ten.
While it may be a good way to showcase that she thinks the people auditioning are very good, saying it constantly means it doesn’t gather as much weight.
That phrase should only be used for a few people at the auditions stage because, as we know from watching the previous 21 seasons, not all of the auditions are good.
Truthfully, the best stories come from the people who show growth as the competition gathers steam.
Somehow, Perry always seems to find herself on the outs with fans, but this is...

Amazon is pushing back on a report that suggested Freevee will shut down this spring.
On Thursday, AdWeek reported that Freevee – Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming service – will be shutting down in the next few weeks, possibly by early April. According to the publication, with the addition of advertising to Amazon’s flagship Prime Video streaming service, Freevee has been rendered redundant.
But an Amazon spokesperson called the report inaccurate, saying in a statement to Gold Derby that “There are no changes to Freevee. Amazon Freevee remains an important streaming offering providing both Prime and non-Prime customers thousands of hit movies, shows, and Originals, all for free.” The spokesperson did not directly address the future of Freevee.
Freevee, which bore IMDb branding until 2022, is a Fast service that does not require signing up for Prime Video, Amazon’s subscription streaming service. Its content, which mostly consists of licensed shows and...

Freevee isn’t going away, Amazon says.
With Amazon’s Prime Video launch of ads by default last month, rumors and speculation have heated up that the tech giant would no longer have a strategic need for Freevee — its free, ad-supported streaming service that is separate from Prime Video. A Feb. 21 report by Adweek, citing anonymous sources, said that Amazon will “sunset” Freevee, likely in the second quarter and possibly before the NewFronts in late April.
Asked for comment, Amazon said the Adweek report is inaccurate.
“There are no changes to Freevee,” the rep said in an email to Variety. “Amazon Freevee remains an important streaming offering providing both Prime and non-Prime customers thousands of hit movies, shows, and originals, all for free.”

Judge Judith Sheindlin is bringing her courtroom back to free, broadcast television.
On Thursday, Amazon MGM Studios said it reached a multi-year syndication deal that will bring its original series “Judy Justice” to more than 100 television stations across the country, including those owned or operated by Nexstar Media Group, Sunbeam Television, Weigel Broadcasting and Cox Media Group.
The move comes a little over two years after Sheindlin brought her courtroom-style arbitration show to Amazon’s free streaming service Freevee following the end of her multi-decade distribution deal with Paramount Global’s CBS Television. Earlier this month, Amazon said the show had been renewed for another season, which debuted this week.
“What a full circle moment — this continues to be quite an adventure!” Sheindlin said in a statement on Tuesday.

The long-reigning queen of syndication is returning to her roots. Judge Judy Sheindlin has inked a multiyear deal to put her streaming effort, Freevee original Judy Justice, on broadcast channels in more than 100 U.S. markets this fall.
This is, of course, a double-dipping scenario. Judy Justice will continue to premiere new episodes on Amazon’s Freevee and Prime Video. The streamer initially launched the show in November 2021 after Sheindlin, long the highest-paid host in TV, ended the 25-year run of the titular Judge Judy. “What a full circle moment,” Sheindlin said in a statement accompanying Wednesday’s news. “This continues to be quite an adventure!”

It’s official — Judy Justice is headed to broadcast syndication for fall 2024 launch. Scott Koondel’s Sox Entertainment, which distributes the Amazon Freevee show, has closed multi-year deals with major broadcast groups including Nexstar, Sunbeam, Cox Media, Weigel, and Mission Broadcasting in well over 100 U.S broadcast markets, including all of the top 10. The company made the joint announcement with Amazon MGM Studios.
As Deadline noted in May, when rumors about a potential Judy Justice syndication play first surfaced, the move makes the first original court show on streaming also the first streaming show to sell into broadcast syndication.
This also marks a return to syndication for Sheindlin whose previous court show, CBS Media Ventures’ Judge Judy, continues to do well with repeats, averaging 5.6 million viewers season to date and leading all court shows as the No. 2 first-run daytime syndicated programs behind only Family Feud.

Judge Judy Sheindlin is heading back to linear TV — again. Amazon MGM Studios and Sox Entertainment have scored a multi-year broadcast syndication deal with station groups in more than 100 U.S. broadcast markets, including Nexstar, Sunbeam, Cox Media, Weigel and Mission Broadcasting, to premiere repeats of Amazon Freevee’s “Judy Justice” in syndication.
This marks a rarity in TV: A streaming show that has been sold in off-network syndication to local TV stations.
Technically, Sheindlin never left the linear air, as CBS Media Ventures continues to distribute repeats of that long-running hit series in syndication.
The run of “Judy Justice” episodes, which has now produced nearly 250 episodes of Freevee, is set to premiere in the Fall of 2024. According to Amazon, the clearance includes stations in all top 10 markets.

Judge Judy Sheindlin endorsed former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley for president.

As Donald Trump was about to step on stage on Sunday for another rally to tout the endorsement of another former rival, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley was about 30 miles south in New Hampshire, at a rally at Exeter High School, where a celebrity figure and daytime fixture was lending her support: Judge Judy.
On stage to a room full of enthusiastic supporters, Haley called Judy Sheindlin, whose daily courtroom show made her one of the most famous women on TV, a “trailblazer” who is “tough” and “speaks hard truths” and “doesn’t mince words.”
“I will tell you for all of those endorsements you talk about, those are the endorsements that matter, the ones where they’re going to tell you the truth even if you don’t want to hear it, and they are going to tell you why, and it’s a combination of brains and heart,” Haley said.

Nikki Haley’s presidential race is entering the final days before the New Hampshire primary with some celebrity support: Judge Judy Sheindlin.
The Haley campaign said that Sheindlin, who announced her endorsement earlier this month, will join the candidate at a rally on Sunday in Exeter, Nh.
Haley posted about Sheindlin’s support on X/Twitter, writing, “Hard truths from Judge Judy.”
Sheindlin said, “Neither Biden nor Trump would know a Houthi from a salami unless someone whispered in their ear or spelled it out from them on a Teleprompter. We need a president like Haley who knows what’s happening — because that’s essential to knowing how to respond.”
Sheindlin produces and stars in Amazon Freevee’s Judy Justice and will headline Justice on Trial , a courtroom docudrama focusing on seminal cases.
Sheindlin backed Michael Bloomberg in his 2020 presidential bid, but otherwise said that she had stayed away from politics except to vote.

In a statement, Haley called Sheindlin a “no-nonsense lady who has earned the respect of millions of Americans from her courtroom by being thoughtful, fair and honest. I’m honored to have her support.”
Sheindlin also said of Haley, “I truly think she can restore America and believe she is the future of this great nation.”
Haley is trailing far behind front runner Donald Trump in the latest polling for the Iowa caucuses. But some polls have showed her narrowing her margin with Trump into the single digits in the first primary state, New Hampshire. That primary is on Jan. 23.

Exclusive: The plan for a Judy Justice foray into broadcast syndication is coming into focus. According to sources, the Amazon Freevee court show, created by and starring Judy Sheindlin, is being taken out to stations by Scott Koondel’s Sox Entertainment, targeting a fall 2024 launch. As Deadline noted in May, when rumors about a potential Judy Justice syndication play first surfaced, the move would make the first original court show on streaming also the first streaming show to sell into broadcast syndication.
About 260 episodes of Judy Justice have streamed on Freevee over the first two seasons. The show, which has been renewed by the Amazon free, ad-supported platform for two more seasons, will have close to 400 episodes available by the time of its planned fall 2024 rollout. None of them have been exposed to linear viewers so Judy Justice would be considered broadcast syndication exclusives.

Amazon Freevee has ordered a two-season renewal of the Daytime Emmy-winning original series “Judy Justice,” the streaming service announced Monday. Freevee, too, has greenlit “Justice on Trial,” a new “Justice” program created by and featuring Judge Judy Sheindlin.
After debuting on Freevee in November 2021, “Judy Justice” has become the No. 1 original program with over 150 million hours watched. The series, too, won the Daytime Emmy in the “Legal/Courtroom program” following its first season. Episodes from Season 2 of “Judy Justice” are streaming now and will release each weekday through June 9.
“How shall I describe my feelings about the renewal of ‘Judy Justice’ on Amazon Freevee? Gratifying, certainly. Grateful, of course,” said Judge Sheindlin. “In exploring the continued success of the program, I do believe that people long to see old-fashion justice administered with an even hand. A little humor doesn’t hurt. I intend to deliver both for as long as I’m able.

Before the streaming wars, there were the cola wars. In an effort to antagonize perennial sugar-water leader Coca-Cola, PepsiCo went to battle in 1996 with Pepsi Stuff, a loyalty program that provided prizes for Pepsi Points — including, according to a TV commercial, a Harrier Jet. However, Pepsi did not actually bring a Harrier to its dogfight.
The soda company not only failed to put a disclaimer on its now-iconic advertisement, it also didn’t realize that someone could actually collect the required 7 million points and try to redeem them for a plane valued at more than 30 million.

Justin Bieber doesn’t want Judge Judy judgin’. In a silly interview with Access Hollywood, Judge Judy Sheindlin said that Bieber used to be hella scared of her when the two were neighbors.
“He’s scared to death of me,” the TV judge of 27 years told the outlet. “There was a period of time before he grew up — when he was foolish, and doing foolish things.”
Sheindlin explained that ever since Bieber’s DUI arrest in 2014 — and her pointed comments about it to the media — the pop star has been terrified of Judge Judy.
