Director Brian Levant reveals in a new interview that John Goodman did not want to reprise his role of Fred Flintstone in a sequel to the 1994 film, The Flintstones.
In an interview with Total Film, Levant said Goodman went so far as to go to film producer Steven Spielberg, begging for a way out. Goodman starred as Fred alongside Rick Moranis, Elizabeth Perkins, Rosie O’Donnell, Kyle MacLachlan, and Halle Berry in the live action film of the modern Stone Age family.
After having a rough experience throughout filming, Goodman spoke with Spielberg, asking to escape the production of a sequel that was being discussed.
Levant said the plan was to do the same thing with The Flintstones that they did with Back to the Future and shoot back-to-back. But Goodman made an appointment with Spielberg and said, “Please don’t make me do any more of these.”

Brian Helgeland's 2001 film "A Knight's Tale" is based on the first of the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, but it has as much to do with 14th-century medieval literature as "Wayne's World." The film features characters singing Queen songs and one of the characters invents the Nike "swoop" as a brand for her armor. The story involves William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) a handsome young cove who aims to win jousting tournaments and be welcomed as one of the king's knights. It's a raucous, lightweight, silly movie that is deeply beloved by a very specific age group, that is: those who were between 15 and 17 in May of 2001.
It also depicted Ledger at the height of his heartthrob powers, as well as Paul Bettany (as Chaucer), Rufus Sewell as the villain, Shannyn Sossamon as Ledger's would-be paramour, and a trio of brilliant comedian sidekicks in Mark Addy, Laura Fraser, and Alan Tudyk.

Tom Wilkinson, a character actor who was also adept when called upon to play leading parts, has died. The charismatic performer, able to embody both warm, relatable heroes and cunning villains, was 75.
Born in Leeds before moving to Canada and then Cornwall in childhood, Wilkinson knew he was destined to work in entertainment at the age of 18 when he was asked to direct a play.
He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) before forging a career in theatre, film and TV. In 1986, he got his first major screen role in mini-series First Among Equals, based on politician-turned-author Jeffrey Archer’s best-selling novel.
That kicked off a successful career on screens big and small, with his film resume including the likes of Shakespeare In Love, Batman Begins, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Girl With A Pearl Earring, The Patriot, Selma, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,...

There’s plenty to look forward to in Hulu’s incoming slate, including the latest “American Horror Story” installment, BAFTA winner “The Banshees of Inisherin,” and new “The Kardashians.” But unfortunately, the streamer has to lose to gain, and new content means a library cleanout.
Throughout the month, Hulu will lose nearly 100 movies and series to make room, including multiple entries in “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” franchises, Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” and many others.

It’s been roughly a quarter century since the men of Sheffield, England, danced onstage going The Full Monty, and a lot has happened. In FX’s limited series, you won’t see any steelworkers stripping to “You Sexy Thing.” “No one wants to see that,” star Robert Carlyle says, laughing. Despite retaining the 1997 film’s title, the eight-episode comedic drama from original writer Simon Beaufoy shines a light on new challenges faced by the local community and its rascally inhabitants, raising awareness around education and poverty. Here’s why this chapter, full of heart, is worth a look. (Credit: Ben Blackall/FX) 1. Everyone’s back! “It was a bit like putting on a comfortable jacket,” Mark Addy says of stepping back into his role as sweet Dave alongside Carlyle’s Gaz and Lesley Sharp’s Jean. Also appearing: Tom Wilkinson (crabby Gerald), Hugo Speer (well-endowed Guy), Paul Barber (dance...

Whether they invite them or not, there are few stories where imagining what comes next is impossible. Part of the appeal of popular, lasting films and series is that they occupy a slice of a world, with the promise that something interesting might be happening elsewhere. Amidst the avalanche of brand extensions and franchise retreads and character revivals, “The Full Monty” feels like the kind of plucky independent film hit that could provide a foundation for a “where are they now” story that doesn’t feel like a cynical cash grab or marketing play. A quarter century after the original movie found success in a number of different arenas, a new FX series aims to revisit a ragtag group in the north England city of Sheffield to see what happens a generation after a sensation.

It’s been more than 25 years since The Full Monty crew bared it all for the entertainment of Sheffield’s citizens, and now they’re back, a little older and no wiser than they were before, in FX’s newly-released limited series. Among the original crew back onscreen are Gaz (Robert Carlyle), Dave (Mark Addy), and Jean (Lesley Sharp) who are still dealing with day-to-day challenges faced in a city where struggle still abounds. Below, we’re breaking down all the need-to-know details about their stories as you prepare to dive back into the story once again helmed by film Simon Beaufoy. Gaz Gets More Involved (Credit: Ben Blackall/FX) As fans of the original film may recall, Gaz struggled to give his son Nathan the life he deserved, turning to stripping as a way to make ends meet. The entire cast of 1997’s feel-good hit “The Full Monty” is back for Hulu’s new series of the same name — even Wim Snape, who played young Nathan at age 11, returns to play the much more sensible son of Robert Carlyle’s charming but unreliable Gaz. But some things are different this time around as the crew reunites for the Hulu sequel series (which drops June 14), with Oscar-nominated scripter Simon Beaufoy co-writing with Alice Nutter.
The series finds the crew still trying various get-rich schemes with mixed to dismal results. The movie, which saw the unemployed steelworkers of Sheffield secretly becoming strippers to raise some cash — and their low self-esteem —ended on a high as the lads gave the enthusiastic hometown audience “the full monty,” that is, full frontal nudity.

1997 film The Full Monty is remembered for two things: being an unexpectedly massive hit, and its final shot of six naked bums frozen mid-sway to Tom Jones’ “You Can Leave Your Hat On”. Over time, its story about a group of unemployed Sheffield men making themselves a bit of cash and even more notoriety by stripping on stage for one night only has been boiled down to box-office and bare bottoms. So much so that when this 26-years-later sequel was first announced, there was a lot of the same reaction: wouldn’t that lot be in their sixties by now? Who’d want to see them in a thong?
You don’t see anybody in a thong in The Full Monty TV series, which doesn’t even call back to that infamous sold-out night at the Millthorpe Working Men’s Club until episode six of eight. For want of a less troubling mental image,...

Was there anyone, truly, who left The Full Monty wondering what these lads would be up to in three decades’ time?
The 1997 film was a complete work in itself, with few plot threads left dangling and no cinematic universe necessary. Hulu’s new sequel, also titled The Full Monty, doesn’t offer an obvious justification for its own existence either. There’s no inciting incident that brings us back to Sheffield, and no motivating goal once we’re there. The most explicit homage to the movie’s famous dance number plays (amusingly) like maybe the cast joked that they wouldn’t do the routine again if they had a gun to their heads.
Yet in spite of it all, the series works more often than not. The show (created by Simon Beaufoy, who also wrote the film) makes the bet that although the stripper plot might be what most people remember about The Full Monty,...

The 2023 BAFTA TV Awards are here with the red carpet just kicking off in London where the British version of the Emmys will be hosted by comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett. Usually, this event is paired with a classically grey and gloomy British sky despite being held annually in May. Today, however, the red carpet is shining brightly in the Spring sun as those of us here in the media center at the Royal Festival Hall, where this year’s TV BAFTAs are held, swelter at our laptops.

Remember "The Full Monty," friends? The British comedy from director Peter Cattaneo and "Slumdog Millionaire" writer Simon Beaufoy earned critical acclaim across the board for its funny and charming story about six unemployed men, including four former steel workers, who decide to form a male striptease act in order to get through some tough times. When you think of The Full Monty – you know, the movie about steel workers who become male strippers – you don’t necessarily think of Disney (we hope). But Disney is very much on board with the upcoming television series, releasing the first trailer for the upcoming The Full Monty show, which brings back much of the original cast.
As per Deadline, the plot for The Full Monty series reads: “Taking place 25 years after the original British smash hit, the eight-parter will follow the same band of brothers as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield, and society’s crumbling healthcare, education, and employment sectors. The comedy-drama will uncover what happened to the gang after they put their kit back on, exploring their brighter, sillier and more desperate moments.” The tagline nicely plays off of the age aspect, which will certainly be played for laughs throughout: “Older. None the wiser.”

Deep breaths, everyone – you might feel old when you read the next sentence. It’s been 25 years since the cast of The Full Monty bared all in the hit Brit comedy-drama, Peter Cattaneo’s film tackling such serious topics as suicide, depression, parental rights and unemployment with an extra dose of Sheffield-centred stripping. And while that might leave you feeling like you’ve drunk from the wrong grail in The Last Crusade, there is good news – it’s officially a long enough interval to warrant the now-obligatory legacy sequel. Yes, The Full Monty is back, with the full cast – in tow, for a Disney+ series set two and a half decades after the film. Watch the first trailer here:
The series comes from original film screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, with producer Uberto Pasolini back too, joined by incoming writer Alice Nutter. And alongside Carlyle are returning stars Mark Addy, Lesley Sharp,...

Pilots are the first and most essential steps in creating a show. They must entice potential viewers while introducing characters, setting up plotlines, and conveying the overall feel of what is to come with future episodes. It can be challenging for even experienced producers—many television series never make it past their pilots due to subpar writing or simply not connecting with viewer interests.

“Game of Thrones” consistently landed loads of Emmy nominations for each of its eight seasons, including several each time for its eclectic cast. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) was consistently the pick of the bunch, contending each and every season and winning a whopping four times. Now, it’s the turn of the “Thrones'” prequel, “House of the Dragon,” to step into the Emmy spotlight.
Here are five cast members who deserve Emmy consideration.
Emma D’Arcy
D’Arcy plays the older version of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, who is at the center of the entire series. D’Arcy, who is non-binary, imbued Rhaenyra with a steely power and held a commanding presence while on screen. She is a strong contender for Best Drama Actress, ranking just behind Melanie Lynskey (“Yellowjackets”) and Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”) and just ahead of Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Sharon Morgan...

Kaos has been a long-time coming. Netflix first announced it had commissioned this British dark comedy reimagining Greek mythology back in 2018, but the pandemic meant that filming only started last year, and there’s already been one major cast replacement.
And even though we’re no closer to an official release date, the impressive cast list, unique premise and solid production team make Kaos well worthy of your attention.
‘Nothing Is Sacred’ in This Bold Take On Greek Myth
Set over eight one-hour episodes, Kaos is a contemporary reimagining of Greek Mythology exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld. The official synopsis describes how six humans will discover they’re part of an ancient prophecy:
“Zeus has a wrinkle. He’s worried it might mean the end of the world and it might. Because on Earth, six humans unaware of their importance or their connection to...

Warning: contains plot spoilers for The Rig finale.
The Rig may have started out like a Doctor Who story missing the Tardis, but it ended up as an absorbing eco-thriller fable. Creator David Macpherson’s series layers sci-fi invention over geological theory to tell a story about the environmental extinction and the survival of planet Earth.
Set aboard a remote Scottish oil rig (is there any other kind of Scottish oil rig?), the six-part series follows the crew of the Kinloch Bravo platform. Following a mysterious tremor and the loss of all communications with the outside, the rig is surrounded by a thick fog, stranding them at sea.
The crew learns that their workplace is scheduled for decommissioning by energy giant Pictor. Tensions flare, and crewmember Baz (Calvin Demba) is exposed to the fog and mysteriously survives what would have been a fatal fall. When Baz starts having visions and ranting about rings and waves,...

This post contains spoilers for "Game of Thrones." Additionally, some of the deaths described are rather graphic, and a few involve children.
If there's one thing "Game of Thrones" is known for, it's gratuitous nudity and sex. If there's two things, it's bloody and often shocking violence. Indeed, a large part of the show's draw is that nobody is safe. The Starks are the closest thing to traditional heroes, and they get the pointy end of the stick more than anyone else. If there's any plot armor to be found in Westeros, it's made of tin foil.
As impressive as the show's body count is, some of the deaths are simply more — more vicious, more disturbing, and more stomach-churning. There's a reason one of the most infamous moments in all of television happened on "Game of Thrones" and was christened the Red Wedding. As gruesome as that scene is, it's...

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s Henry Cavill’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it return to the DC Extended Universe as Superman. Despite James Gunn confirming he and DC Studios co-president Peter Safran have completed their master plan to turn the struggling Dceu around, there are casualties across the board.
On top of Patty Jenkins confirming she’s no longer attached to Wonder Woman 3, Gunn and Safran seem to be shuttering the rest of Zack Snyder’s Dceu that Cavill kicked off in 2012 with Man of Steel. Even though it remains to be seen what will happen to Aquaman and the Flash after their 2023 standalone movies, the much-hyped Man of Steel 2 is no more.
When Gunn confirmed Warner Bros. is moving forward with a young Superman movie on Twitter, there was a seemingly throwaway comment that mentioned “a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.

From Errol Flynn to Disney, cinema has long been fascinated with the legend of Robin Hood. This grand, swashbuckling adventure in the classic tradition was a huge hit, suggesting audiences will never tire of the tale. To celebrate the release of the film in an all-new Uhd 4K restoration, here’s a look at the various actors who set audiences a quiver playing the beloved folklore hero through the decades.

The night is dark and full of spoilers. Go no further if you haven't seen the latest episode of "House of the Dragon."
When you play the game of thrones, you either win ... or you die.
Everyone knows that successions are far from a simple matter in the "Game of Thrones" universe, and this latest episode of "House of the Dragon" was no different. After yet another time jump last week, "The Green Council" zeroed in on the immediate aftermath to depict the food frenzy that followed King Viserys' (Paddy Considine) death as the Targaryen family — or the "greener" half of them, at least — finally made their move for control of the Iron Throne. This episode gave us a curious interpretation of a king's last dying words, several layers of political machinations and plotting, and what essentially amounts to a coup attempt to usurp the throne. Thanks to the latest episode of "House of the Dragon," we've been given a perfect opportunity to look back and remember what "Game of Thrones" was like before it became synonymous with spectacle-filled battle sequences, brutal deaths, near-constant misery, and quite a bit of incest. Okay, admittedly, most of those qualities were baked-in right from the start, but viewers couldn't be blamed for only remembering the more buzz-worthy moments that would go on to define the series. Back in season 1, before "Game of Thrones" really took off in earnest and any dragons ever arrived on the scene, much of the plot eschewed high fantasy tropes altogether to depict a grounded and refreshingly straightforward drama about political squabbling ... with a little dash of mystery, as well.

Aside from being a rollicking, romantic romp, The Mummy (1999) has carved out an iconic place among movie lovers for what Tor.com’s Leah Schnelbach describes as its chaotic bisexual energy. Here is a movie with an ensemble cast whose combined hotness, sheer charisma, and bucking of gender and societal norms make it so that anyone can see themselves in a variety of characters—and perhaps make some breakthroughs in realizing who they’re attracted to.
As Maggie Tokuda-Hall summed up, “Hot people being horny on main; campy violence; himbos.” But while The Mummy is a unique modern classic, it’s not the only one to spark a bisexual awakening among fans: May I present its equally chaotic bisexual contemporary, Brian Helgeland’s delightful 2001 film, A Knight’s Tale.

Speak with any passionate Game of Thrones fan—or even the casual viewers who were in it for the dragons and ice zombies—and they’ll tell you issues they had with HBO’s former flagship series. Most of those critiques revolve around the final season: Daenerys Targaryen’s descent into madness was rushed (or that it occurred at all); Jaime Lannister threw away his redemption arc in one hackneyed scene with Brienne; how could they “forget” about the Iron Fleet?!
Yet for author George R.R. Martin, it is none of those things that give him his greatest regret. Rather it’s a sequence that occurred during the very first season of Game of Thrones… and one which House of the Dragon just gently corrected while using it as the staging ground for the new series’ most pointed episode to date.

A familiar name takes the floor in the third episode of House of the Dragon released Monday (5 September).
Jason Lannister (Jefferson Hall) announces his proposal to marry Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), the heir to the throne chosen by her father, King Viserys I (Paddy Considine).
Carrying all the arrogant swagger of a medieval Old Etonian, Jason is easily recognisable as the ancestor of beloved Game of Thrones characters such as Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion Lannister.
So, how does Jason relate to his Game of Thrones successors?
Jason precedes Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion by roughly 200 years
Ser Jason attempts to woo Rhaenyra with little success on the king’s hunting trip in House of the Dragon. He has a twin, Ser Tyland, who we may see in episodes to come...
Spoiler alert: When Viserys dies in 129 AC, his widow and second wife, Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower defies the king's last will,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 3, “Second of His Name.”] If hunts leave you suspicious after that fateful excursion for Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy), never fear — the hunt in “Second of His Name” leaves all main characters unharmed. It does, however, expose the realm’s fraying faith in Viserys (Paddy Considine) and his choice of heir, and sends Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) away from her father to process her feelings. Here’s how it happens. Most of Rhaenyra and Viserys’ story continues to revolve around the line of succession. After a two-year time jump, Alicent (Emily Carey) has borne Viserys a son, and she’s pregnant with the king’s second child by her. Everyone from the heads of the houses to Viserys’ own advisors expect that first-born son, not Rhaenyra, will one day ascend the throne. Meanwhile, Viserys has been attempting to pair his daughter with suitors to no avail: unsurprisingly,...
