“The Crown” is gearing up for its last hurrah at the SAG Awards, an organization that has bestowed a number of prizes onto the Netflix regal show over the years. It claimed the highly coveted TV drama ensemble prize twice (2019 and ’20), while individual winners through the years were Claire Foy (2016 and ’17), John Lithgow (2016) and Gillian Anderson (2020). Now the sixth and final season is hoping to prevail for a third time, which would tie it with “Downton Abbey” in this category at three total wins.
Season 6 faces off in the TV drama ensemble race against fellow nominees “The Gilded Age,” “The Last of Us,” “The Morning Show” and “Succession.” Elizabeth Debicki is “The Crown’s” only solo acting nominee this year, with her co-nominees in the TV drama actress category being Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Keri Russell (“The Diplomat”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”).

This year’s SAG Awards nominations for drama ensemble run the gamut in terms of total cast members nominated. You have “The Gilded Age” on one side with a jaw-dropping 34 people represented. And then you have “The Last of Us” on the other side with just two — hi, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey! HBO’s zombie apocalypse series has now tied the Screen Actors Guild record with “Key and Peele,” which was the first TV show to nab an ensemble citation with just two stars: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
The “Key and Peele” funny duo lost to “Orange Is the New Black” for comedy ensemble in 2016, which had a whopping 34 cast members nominated that year. Hmm, a two-person cast losing to a 34-person ensemble? Might SAG Awards history repeat itself? “The Last of Us” competes this year against “The Gilded Age” (34 cast members), “Succession” (18), “The Crown” (15) and “The Morning Show...

The Gilded Age stars Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon go way back — they first shared the Broadway stage in 1984, when the Tony-winning Baranski played mother to Nixon in Tom Stoppard’s acclaimed play The Real Thing. “Who’s this young, gifted, charming woman?” Baranski recalls of first working with Nixon, who — nearly 40 years after their first collaboration — now plays Ada Brook, the sister to Baranski’s Agnes van Rhijn on Julian Fellowes’ historical HBO drama.
“I was already in awe of her,” says Nixon of working with her scene partner decades ago. “I was basically a kid, but we’re only 14 years apart. She was way too young to be my mother, but that didn’t occur to me at the time.”
Adds Baranski with a laugh: “I loved playing her mother, and now I’m her older sister. Don’t you love showbiz?”

When Robin Williams filmed Dead Poets Society in 1988, he was working with a cast of young actors, most of whom were unknowns at the time — but several of them, including Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, and Robert Sean Leonard, went on to become stars in their own right. Playing the teacher to the young actors’ students, Williams spent a lot of time with them on the set. At the time the film was released, Williams complimented director Peter Weir casting choices, noting that he became friends with many of his young co-stars over the course of the shoot. A fun thing about getting into old musicals after watching "The Simpsons" your whole life is that you'll find yourself experiencing a never-ending string of realizations like, "Oh, so this is where that 'Simpsons' scene came from." Such is the case for "The Music Man," the 1962 musical about a conman who goes into a naive small town, stirs up a moral panic, and then uses said panic to sell them band instruments. This is all encapsulated in the musical number "Ya Got Trouble," where main character Harold Hill (Robert Preston) uses his charisma to get the town fully on board with his money-making scheme.
To a "Simpsons" fan, the song's tone, meaning, and rhythm should quickly feel familiar. That's because it's the same basic song Lyle Lanley (voiced by Phil Hartman) sings to the town of Springfield to get them to invest in a monorail they don't need.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Gilded Age Season 2 Episode 7, “Wonders Never Cease.”] Tragedy befell the Van Rhijn and Forte households in The Gilded Age Season 2 Episode 7. Popular medical drama House has just been added to Hulu on Tuesday (November 7)!
The eight-season Fox series centered on Dr. Gregory House, who is devoid of anything resembling bedside manner and wouldn’t even talk to his patients if he could get away with it. Dealing with his own constant physical pain, he uses a cane that seems to punctuate his acerbic, brutally honest demeanor.
While his behavior can border on antisocial, House is a brilliant diagnostician whose unconventional thinking and flawless instincts afford him widespread respect. An infectious disease specialist, House thrives on the challenge of solving medical puzzles in order to save lives.
The series featured quite the cast over the course of it’s run: Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Lisa Edelstein, Jennifer Morrison, Peter Jacobson, Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, Amber Tamblyn, Odette Annable and Charlyne Yi.

It has been a long 19 months since we’ve been able to luxuriate in a withering line from Christine Baranski’s Agnes van Rhijn, but fans of “The Gilded Age” may now celebrate as the HBO drama has returned with its second season. After the first batch of episodes ended with Carrie Coon’s social climber Bertha Russell making significant inroads with “old money” New York, these new episodes will find her at odds with the old guard once again as they go head-to-head with rivaling opera houses. The season premiere aired on Oct. 29 on HBO and streamed on Max.

After spending the better part of The Gilded Age‘s first season rooting for Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) and Tom Raikes (Thomas Cocquerel) to end up fancily ever after, fans were disappointed to witness their relationship crumble in last year’s finale — even more so to hear that Cocquerel wouldn’t be returning for the HBO drama’s sophomore season.

“Soup? At Luncheon?” No one does high, apoplectic dudgeon with the verve of Christine Baranski, who as New York dragon lady Agnes Van Rhijn erupts after her timid spinster sister Ada (Cynthia Nixon) dares to present clam chowder as a daytime treat to a smitten reverend (Robert Sean Leonard) from Boston. The very idea! And don’t get her started on her good-natured niece Marian (Louisa Jacobson) taking a job teaching watercolors at a local girls’ school on Thursdays. “The day is immaterial,” Agnes snorts in derision. Does she back down when Marian calls her out as mean-spirited? Hardly. “Is it cruel to mind it when you stomp on our name and drag it in the mud? Now get out of my way!” Gladly. Welcome back to the rarefied world of The Gilded Age, Julian Fellowes’ entertaining yet shallow attempt to re-create a Downton Abbey vibe in the mansions of 1880s society,...

After multiple Oscars, Silver Bears, Golden Globes, Grammys and a Tony, Denzel Washington has earned the right to be called one of the greatest actors of our time. He could drop the surname and still be instantly recognisable – two syllables that guarantee acting excellence.
Key to his success is his ability to mesmerise an audience into seeing past his instantly recognisable face and observing only the character. It’s arguably the central tenet to any actor’s success, yet it is with unusual success and consistency that Denzel Washington has been able to shift from character to character seemingly with ease. This is an actor who rarely repeats himself.
The need for variety and the consistency of execution makes his sole franchise role all the more intriguing. Today sees the digital premiere for the third entry in The Equalizer series, with his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua ending the trilogy...

For a series stuffed to the gills with Tony Award-winning actors, it makes perfect sense that the second season of “The Gilded Age” would find its ensemble embroiled in a plot over dueling opera houses. As Carrie Coon’s social climber Bertha Russell says at the beginning of the new trailer, “I intend to bring the great city of New York the opera house it deserves.” That development puts her at odds once again with the moneyed old guard of the city, played by Christine Baranski and Donna Murphy. Watch the full season two trailer above.
This eight-episode installment of the HBO series also promises new adventures for its two young heroines. Peggy (Denée Benton) looks to return to living with Agnes van Rhijn (Baranski). Her burgeoning career as a newspaper columnist takes her to cover the opening of a school in Tuskegee, while her mother (Audra McDonald) warns her...

Things will heat up in HBO’s “The Gilded Age” Season 2, and not just on the railroads.

“Mrs. Russell, you conquered New York,” Lane’s McAllister says at the beginning of the clip released by Max Wednesday morning. “You dine in the best houses. But are you sure it’s wise to start the war with New York society? Aren’t you asking for trouble?”
“Yes, and you’ll need to pick a team,” Coon’s Russell responds. “Head-to-head and one will be the winner.”

Kevin Spacey was “like another son” to late Glengarry Glen Ross co-star Jack Lemmon, a court heard today at the American Beauty actor’s UK sex offenses trial.
During a series of 10 character references for the defense, Spacey became emotional as he reacted to the words from the likes of Chris Lemmon and House and Dead Poet’s Society star Robert Sean Leonard.
Lemmon, a stage actor who last year played his father in Blonde, said his dad saw Spacey as family and “so became like a brother to me.”
Spacey and Jack Lemmon appeared together in Glengarry Glen Ross, David Mamet’s 1992 adaptation of his play of the same name about a group of failing real estate agents who are told only the top two sellers will keep their jobs.

The image of once-timid prep school boys standing atop their desks to pay tribute to their recently-fired English teacher, Mr. Keating (Robin Williams), is meant to invoke a sense of purpose. It's meant to stir up your emotions and stay with you for the rest of your life, even as the broad strokes of the film eventually fade into hazy memory. Without that "O, Captain, my Captain" moment, "Dead Poets Society" might have been a very different film. But it's not the only one that shaped the film into the classic it became.
Like with all good stories, the ending is merely a culmination of moments.

Between them, you’ve definitely heard the work of composers (and brothers) Harry and Rupert Gregson-Williams in film and TV projects such as “Wonder Woman,” “The Crown,” “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “House of Gucci,” “The Alienist,” “Catherine the Great” and a large swath of the Adam Sandler oeuvre. But only recently have they decided to join forces to become a double-threat, on HBO’s recently renewed, turn-of-the-century hit “The Gilded Age.”
However, this series is not their first duo effort. “Our first experience was with George Clooney; I’m not sure how the opportunity came about,” Harry said. “But ‘Catch-22’ [for Hulu] was our first foray into co-composing with each other. And, you know, it takes a while to feel out each other and how we how we would deal with the various obstacles and how we would get the most creative juices out of each other.
