Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the follow-up to the 1988 comedy-horror classic. Michael Keaton returns as the foul-mouthed, shape-shifting ghoul joined by new cast members Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux. Also reprising their roles from the original film are Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” sees the Deetz clan move back into their Winter River home after a sudden death in the family. When Lydia’s (Ryder) rebellious teen daughter Astrid (Ortega) discovers a portal to the afterlife hidden in the basement, the name of the mischievous spirit Beetlejuice is inevitably repeated three times, inviting him to wreak havoc in the Deetz family home once again.
“The living, the dead… can they coexist? That’s what we’re here to find out,” Ryder’s Lydia says in the trailer.

Who knew that French author Pierre Boulle’s slim, satirical 1963 novel, Le Planete des Singes, would lead to one of the most successful science fiction franchises of all time? Consisting of 10 films (to date), two TV series , comic books (including a magazine series from Marvel), toys, games, merchandise and more, Planet of the Apes remains one of the most enduring and unique sci-fi sagas in cinematic history.
The success of the original film, 1968’s Planet of the Apes, led studio 20th Century Fox (which finally made the movie after years of development and stalling) to launch a series of sequels. That wasn’t necessarily unheard of back then, but those sequels—which include Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970), Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) and Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)—told one complete story, unlike anything done on film before.

The show, based on the legendary Chas. Addams characters and run for Netflix by Al Gough and Mike Millar-run show (with a creative assist from producer and director Tim Burton), is now shooting in Ireland and there have been some changes in the cast.
New to the Jenna Ortega-led ensemble are the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Steve Buscemi (now given second billing on the show), Olivier-winning British actress Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Australian Noah Taylor. It’s unknown who the new characters are other than their names; Buscemi’s “Barry Dort” does not appear in previous “Addams Family” lore, so it’s anyone’s guess.
As guest stars, the TikTok-primed series now boasts 85-year-old legend Christopher Lloyd, “Absolutely Fabulous” co-star Joanna Lumley, Emmy and BAFTA-winning Thandiwe Newton,...

The Story: A goofball gym teacher (Mark Harmon) is forced to teach a remedial English class over the summer.
The Players: Starring: Mark Harmon, Kirstie Alley, Dean Cameron, Courtney Thorne-Smith & Shawnee Smith. Music by Danny Elfman. Directed by Carl Reiner.
The History: Hollywood spent a couple of years trying to make Mark Harmon happen as a movie star. Fresh off an arc on “St. Elsewhere” which infamously had his character contract AIDS from a one-night stand, his career was red hot. For a while, he was seriously considered to replace Don Johnson on “Miami Vice” after contract negotiations fell through, and in 1987-88, we got a bunch of starring vehicles that would try him out in a variety of genres to see if one would stick. He did action in The Presidio (even doing his own stunts – although the film was stolen by co-star Sean Connery), drama in Stealing Home,...

We live in a golden era of sci-fi on TV, where "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" come in multiple flavors, "Stranger Things" is an event every season, and the CW recently wrapped up an entire universe of DC Comics superheroes on the small screen. Fortunately for all sci-fi fans, this is a time where the people who make such shows grew up loving them, and critics who review them were raised on the concepts and get it. This is all a relatively new phenomenon.
As recently as the '90s, TV critics weren't necessarily big on high-concept sci-fi, and the people making these shows didn't always know what they were doing either. Even if they did, producers over their heads weren't necessarily making the best decisions either. Superheroes on TV were entirely different three decades ago, and the weekly format was just discovering the notion of season-long arcs. There were growing pains to be sure,...

Unlike most genre enthusiasts, horror fans face a unique challenge when trying to share their favorite media with friends and family. While almost anyone can handle watching a rom-com or a space opera (even if they don’t necessarily enjoy the experience), you can get into serious trouble by recommending Martyrs or Cannibal Holocaust to someone who isn’t yet versed in horror.
This is even more challenging when it comes to video games, with the added level of interactivity making scares more intense and raising the odds of alienating a loved one with an excessively disturbing recommendation. With this in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six gateway horror games that you can share with friends, co-workers and even children without risking life-long trauma!
As usual, don’t forget to comment below with your own non-m-rated horror favorites if you think we missed a particularly fun one.

"The Simpsons" will turn 35 in 2024 -- and like just about any other Millennial, it celebrated becoming a legal adult (with "The Simpsons Movie" in 2007) blissfully unaware of the obstacles awaiting in its future, had a proper quarter-life crisis, and now Disney owns its childhood. Entire empires have risen and fallen since the series began in 1989, and a whole lot of TV shows with them. In point of fact, when the animated institution turned 20 in 2009, a fellow Fox series called "Bones" was only just entering its fifth season, with no idea it was less than halfway done.
To celebrate the occasion, Fox announced it would be paying "homarge" to "The Simpsons" with an on-air scavenger hunt from November 9 -13, 2009. Never one to pass up an opportunity to goose its ratings, the network encouraged its viewers to tune into other Fox series that week and hunt for Easter eggs nodding to Homer,...

The director and star of Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday,” Tim Burton and Jenna Ortega will reteam for upcoming sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, headed to theaters September 6.
Jenna Ortega joins returning players Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder in the sequel to the 1980s classic, and she’ll be playing the daughter of Ryder’s iconic Lydia Deetz!
Chatting with Vanity Fair this week, Ortega confirmed that is indeed the role she’s playing – not that there was any question – while also teasing what we can expect from the role.
We also finally have a name for her character: Astrid!
“I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say, but I am Lydia Deetz’s daughter, so I’ll give that away,” Ortega tells the outlet. “She’s weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume, I would say. The relationship between Lydia (Ryder) and Astrid,...

A pop culture icon returns to the big screen in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to the ’80s classic that brings Michael Keaton back as the title character.
While we wait for an official first look at the upcoming movie, Keaton chats with People this week and promises that the film will feel wonderfully retro in its “handmade” approach.
Keaton explains, “The one thing that [Tim Burton] and I decided on early, early, early on from the beginning, if we ever did it again, I was totally not interested in doing something where there was too much technology. It had to feel handmade.”
Keaton continues, “What made it fun was watching somebody in the corner actually holding something up for you, to watch everybody in the shrunken head room and say, ‘Those are people under there, operating these things, trying to get it right.'”

A Night of Horror International Film Festival, announces its first programming wave for 2024 today. Long known as Australia’s premier genre film event, the festival now takes place in the United States. This year, the festival’s 16th edition – and first in the US – screens from March 1-3, at the Micon Downtown Cinema in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Says festival director Dean Bertram:
To move a fest I co-founded in Sydney, Australia, back in 2006, to America feels surreal. A Night of Horror has long taken pride in being recognized for its excellence in showcasing the best and bloodiest new horror films from around the globe. And this year’s program is already shaping up to be one of my favorite line-ups yet. In the first wave alone are some of the most original, terrifying, and at times hilarious genre offerings that you’ll see this year: A bloody buffet of zombies,...

The long-awaited "Beetlejuice" sequel is finally coming out later this year, and Warner Bros. has just allowed the hype train to leave the station. The studio has revealed the first official poster for Tim Burton's forthcoming follow-up to his '80s classic and, with that, we now know the title of the film as well, which is pretty on the nose. Get ready for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" this fall. Have a look at the poster for yourself.
Warner Bros.
As viewers will surely recall, Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice was stuck in the netherworld waiting room just waiting for his number to be called. The poster pays homage to that with the character holding a piece of ticker tape with the film's release date on it. The wait is almost over for Tim Burton’s long-long-long-awaited sequel, and the official poster today reveals that the upcoming sequel is titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!
The title is of course a clever play on the chant that summons the “ghost with the most,” and it seemingly sets the stage for a potential third installment: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
But first, let’s focus on this second installment…
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice haunts theaters on September 6, 2024, and the cast features Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, and Monica Bellucci.
We expect the first trailer is coming very soon. Stay tuned.
No word yet on plot details, but it’s known that Jenna Ortega will be playing the daughter of Lydia Deetz, the character Winona Ryder is of course returning to play.
Justin Theroux recently joined the cast of the sequel as well, with frequent Burton collaborator Danny Elfman coming back to compose the film’s score.

For us 90s kids, Dick Tracy was an interesting monster of a movie. It seemed to take a lot of cues from Tim Burton’s Batman, which was released the previous summer, but it definitely had a distinct voice of its own. Dick Tracy was another classic pulp adaptation of an urban enforcer that had very dynamic visuals and an over-the-top rogues gallery. It even sported a score by Danny Elfman, which would have his signature atmospheric sound. The movie would introduce a generation of young audiences to the 1930’s film noir/ detective movie genre. Additionally, the movie brought back Warren Beatty after a three-year absence when his last film, 1987’s Ishtar, was a big flop. Having a star like Beatty in a big-budget franchise like this was an enormous asset for the re-budding intellectual property. And the star power wouldn’t even stop there.

Title star Jenna Ortega has talked about Wednesday season 2, which will contain ‘a little bit more horror’, she says.
Awards ceremony red carpets are a prime hunting ground for roving entertainment reporters, given that you can reliably collar a celebrity as they’re flustered and in a bit of a rush. Such is the case with Jenna Ortega, who was briefly interviewed by the snappily-named E! at the Emmys earlier this week.
When asked about the second season of Wednesday, the Addams Family spin-off series streamed by Netflix, Ortega said she’d received some scripts, and that “we’re definitely leaning into more horror.”
Elsewhere, Ortega added that the second series will be “bigger,” “more action-packed,” filled with “really good one liners” and that “each episode will probably feel a little bit like a movie, which is nice.”
Indeed it is. Wednesday’s first season, which premiered in November 2022, was...

Pee-wee’s Playhouse was the culmination of a character created back in the 70s by the multi-talented Paul Reubens. Reubens had joined the comedy group the Groundlings in the 70s. The Groundlings was the jumping-off point for several famous comedians and icons. This would include Phil Hartman, Lisa Kudrow, Cassandra Peterson, Craig T. Nelson, a who’s who list of SNL Alumni, Conan O’Brien, JJ Abrams, and well…just a lot of people.
A number of the troupe who were there when Reubens was a part of the Groundlings would wind up as part of not only Pee-wee’s Playhouse but also other Pee-wee projects. I mean…who can forget Cassandra Peterson, Aka Elvira, as the biker gang badass chick who wanted a go at Pee Wee first?
From his time creating the character at The Groundlings, Reubens had a go for Saturday Night Live which didn’t happen. After this, he...

Who would have thought that one of the more enduring family movies in the last 20 years would come from Brett Ratner and star Nicolas Cage? Indeed, The Family Man was only a modest success when it came out over the holiday season in 2000, but it has since inspired rip-offs and remakes and is a beloved classic for many of us.
In it, Nicolas Cage plays a high-flying businessman named Jack Campbell, who doesn’t appreciate the little things in life, such as Christmas. It’s lonely at the top, but he consoles himself with his Ferrari, penthouse apartment in New York, and hook-ups with women such as supermodel Amber Valletta, who has a small role as his bedmate early in the film. Yet, being alone on Christmas Eve, he does a good deed when he intervenes in a convenience store standoff by showing empathy towards a wired, gun-toting customer, played by Don Cheadle,...

Christmas movies don’t often earn Academy Award nominations. “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Miracle on 34th Street” are two of the few holiday pictures that did make their way into the Oscars lineups. That leaves a sackful of Christmas films that should have also Oscar nominations. Here are five of them.
“Love Actually”
Writer-director Richard Curtis was nominated for Best Original Screenplay for “Four Weddings and a Funeral” in 1995 but has never landed a follow-up bid. He could have earned that for his script for “Love Actually,” which interweaves 10 stories about love during London in the lead-up to Christmas. Bill Nighy won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor as a rockstar searching for a comeback. His quirky, hilarious performance could have seen him wind up at the Oscars, too. Instead, he had to wait until earlier this year for his first Oscar nomination (for Best Actor for “Living”).

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fargo Year 5, Episodes 1-3.] When it comes to Fargo, the series isn’t one you’d expect to pull blatant influences from other popular culture, but Year 5 is flipping the script a bit with its Nightmare Before Christmas influences. As viewers who tuned into the first three episodes saw, and heard, there is more than one allusion to the Tim Burton stop-motion animated classic. The first tease occurs while Dot (Juno Temple) attempts to sleep after being booked by the police in the first installment, “The Tragedy of the Commons.” Fearful about what might be coming for her, we see a flash of masked individuals donning the likeness of Jack Skellington and other characters from the film. (Credit: FX) And as the second episode, “Trials and Tribulations,” comes to a close, Dot sits down to dinner with her husband Wayne (David Rysdahl) and daughter Scotty (Sienna King) at the moment...

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the animated series adaptation of Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,“ which aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC/Fox Network.
In the eighties and nineties, studios were never shy about taking mature intellectual properties and cashing in on them by giving them their own animated spinoffs for kids. Among the rather extensive list were direct G-rated adaptations like “Rambo,” “Conan,” “Ace Ventura,” and even “Police Academy.” One of the most notable, and more widely celebrated adaptations was of Tim Burton’s 1988 hit film Beetlejuice. While the original movie excelled in being as menacing, bizarre, and raunchy as possible, executive producers Tim Burton and David Geffen opted for a more kid friendly variation of the “Ghost with the Most” for the animated series.
Aimed more for the 8-12 Saturday morning cartoon demographic, the animated show thankfully stuck true to much of what made the movie so entertaining.

It's that time of year again! You know, the one where we all debate whether or not something is a Christmas movie, like "Die Hard" or "Gremlins." The big one, and the one that I must insist belongs to two holidays — Halloween and Christmas — is 1993's "The Nightmare Before Christmas." I don't see why it can't be both. That said, there are certain parts of the film that seem to fall firmly into one category. That includes when Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon and Danny Elfman) appears as the Pumpkin King at the beginning of the film and during the song "This Is Halloween."

In a Halloween world where every person is a monster, a vampire, a skeleton, a werewolf, a demon, or a creature that hides under the stairs, who could possibly be a villain? In Henry Selick's 1993 stop-motion animated fantasy "The Nightmare Before Christmas," Jack Skellington is the community's most famous local hero, but he is not a killer. Indeed, Jack seems to be good-hearted (if he had a heart) and secretly longs for romance. The local mad scientist Dr. Finkelstein (William Hickey) can resurrect dead skeletons, but he doesn't want to take lives. Even the two-faced Mayor (Glenn Shadix) is more ineffectual than evil.
The only monster in Halloween Town that truly longs for violence and aches to kill people with his own hands is Oogie Boogie, a.k.a. the Boogeyman (Ken Page). As imagined by the film's designer, Tim Burton, Oogie Boogie is a large, empty-eyed burlap sack full of bugs and snakes.

If you were around when "The Nightmare Before Christmas" first opened in theaters, it might freak you out to learn that it's been 30 years since then. The film, adapted from a story by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick, tells the musical tale of Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween Town, who is having an emotional crisis. He's looking for something different and new when he comes across doors for other holiday towns. When he visits Christmas Town, he thinks it will be much better than what he has. He returns to Halloween Town and tries to get the spooky residents to embrace Christmas, which they do, but in their own, unique and creepy way.
Elfman, who was the lead vocalist and played rhythm guitar for the band Oingo Boingo at the time, composed the music for the film in just around 30 days.

Elfman, who was the lead vocalist and played rhythm guitar for the band Oingo Boingo at the time, composed the music for the film in just around 30 days.

Exclusive: Netflix’s reigning most popular series, Wednesday, is headed to a new locale. The upcoming second season of the Addams Family offshoot will be filmed in Ireland, sources tell Deadline. Details are still being firmed up, but I hear start of production is tentatively slated for late April.
Season 1 of Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, was shot in Romania from September 2021-March 2022. Following the massive global success of the coming-of-age horror comedy, which was released in November 2022, the Wednesday sets became a major attraction, giving Romania a TV tourism boost.
Still, the Balkan location presented logistical challenges, with speculation starting soon after production had wrapped that, if the series would go to a second season, it might film elsewhere. Wednesday, which was renewed in January, hails from MGM Television, whose sibling Amazon Studios has recent experience with relocating a sprawling genre series after Season 1 with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power...

Based on Tim Burton's 1982 gothic poem, "A Nightmare Before Christmas" has become a seasonal classic that's come close to eclipsing "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" as the quintessential holiday movie. Whether you and your family watch it over Halloween or Christmas (or both), the macabre musical is just as much of a staple during the Fall months as candy corn and eggnog.
Together, stop-motion master Henry Selick ("Coraline"), screenwriter Caroline Thompson ("Edward Scissorhands"), and composer Danny Elfman executed Burton's original vision perfectly, creating a world where each holiday exists within a magical realm unto itself where the inhabitants can celebrate all year round. Originally, Elfman was tasked with writing the songs and music, in addition to voicing lead character Jack Skellington, the so-called "Pumpkin King" of Halloween Town. As a result, Elfman became deeply attached to the part, making the decision to...

Film composer Danny Elfman has denied allegations from a woman who claimed that he sexually harassed her over 20 years ago, stating that the claims were “meritless” and “would carry no weight in a court of law.”
In Elfman’s answer to the anonymous Jane Doe accuser’s allegations, filed in Los Angeles Court on Monday, Elfman and his legal team claimed that the suit “was maliciously filed by Plaintiff and her attorneys, without any valid basis in fact or law, for the improper purpose of embarrassing Mr. Elfman and extorting settlement money.

Danny Elfman is responding to allegations that he sexually abused a woman in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Two different women have accused the 70-year-old musician of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and similar transgressions. In July, composer Nomi Abadi sued Danny for failing to pay an $830,000 settlement over a sexual harassment case from 2018.
In October, a second woman came forward, accusing Danny of sexually abusing her from 1997 to 2002 while she was a 21-year-old student at the New York Film Academy.

On Monday (November 6), Danny claimed that he “committed no sexual abuse, made no inappropriate advances and never inappropriately touched” his accuser, THR reports.
In a statement obtained by the outlet, Danny‘s lawyer, Camille Vasquez wrote: “Recognizing that her absurd allegations would carry no weight in a court of law, Plaintiff and her attorneys chose to embark on a disinformation campaign,...

Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman is denying allegations from a woman who accused him of sexual abuse from 1997 to 2002. He claims that the lawsuit was “maliciously filed” for the “purpose of embarrassing him” with the goal of extorting settlement money.
In October, a 47-year-old woman in Maryland came forward with accusations against Elfman that the Grammy winner groomed and assaulted her when she was a student at the New York Film Academy. She sued Elfman, who was 47 at the time of the alleged incident, and his company, Musica de la Muerta, in Los Angeles Superior Court for sexual assault, gender violence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, sexual harassment and negligence. The lawsuit from the Jane Doe plaintiff mirrored allegations from composer Nomi Abadi, who claimed in July that Elfman failed to pay part of a settlement reached in 2018 to resolve a similar case.

More than 30 years after its original release, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" has just passed a significant box office milestone. Disney's beloved classic — one suited for both the Halloween and Christmas seasons — was recently re-released in theaters to celebrate its 30th anniversary. It has done well enough in theaters over the past couple of weeks to push the film over the $100 million mark worldwide. That's pretty remarkable considering how long it took to reach that benchmark.
The 30th-anniversary re-release has, to date, earned $9.8 million domestically, per Box Office Mojo. That includes $889,000 in its most recent weekend. With that, the movie has earned $87.2 million domestically to date to go with $13.8 million internationally for a grand total that now stands at $101 million worldwide. This latest release puts a punctuation mark on what has been a very unique journey, to say the least.
