Many actors do their best to downplay the roles that made them famous as children. Neil Patrick Harris could have done that by steering clear of his place in TV history as the wise-beyond-his-years "Doogie Howser, M.D." But he didn't.
Instead, he kept on steadily working, standing out in an assortment of TV movies and beloved pop culture trinkets such as Starship Troopers before landing the role that brought him to the attention of producers on "How I Met Your Mother": his wild turn in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.
These days we love him as Doogie, and Barney Stinson, and one of the most multi-talented awards show hosts television has ever experienced. Why? Because he was never too good to dance with the show that brought him to our attention in the first place.
