- DirectorTom CleggStarsSean BeanJamie BartlettKevin CollinsThis is the true story of the most highly decorated British patrol since the Boer war: an eight man SAS team inserted behind Iraqi lines during the Gulf War in January 1991. Their mission was to take out the scud missiles which Saddam Hussein was using to terrorize his enemies, as well as to sever strategic communication lines between Baghdad and North West Iraq. This top secret mission was called "Bravo Two Zero" and it was commanded by Sergeant Andy McNab. Of the eight who went out, only five returned. Dropped into "scud alley" carrying 210-pound packs, McNab and his men soon found themselves surrounded by Saddam's army. Their radios didn't work; the weather was brutally cold. And they had been spotted.
- DirectorAlexander MarengoStarsBob PodestaFrom the box: The SAS has always shrouded itself in secrecy. Its men regularly undertake some of the most dangerous missions imaginable in war zones around the world. But the world's finest elite fighting force prefers to operate strictly out of the spotlight. Now, Channel 4's highly acclaimed SAS - THE REAL STORY penetrates that veil of secrecy for the first time to offer an unrivaled insight into the true combat history of the regiment. As never before, this unique DVD reveals the hidden history of the SAS, from its formation in the North African desert in WWII to its highly secret operations in the jungles of Malaya and Borneo. It reveals 'the hidden wars' fought by the SAS in Oman in the 1950s and 1970s, undercover operations in Northern Ireland and missions previously shrouded in secrecy in the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Bosnia and the Yemen. The Iranian Embassy Siege operation is followed in detail as is the notorious 'Bravo Two Zero' mission and other less-well known operations during the 1991 Gulf War, taking the story up to the war in Afghanistan and the brutal hand-to-hand fight in the caves of Torah Borah. These dramatic events are recounted using vivid battle recreations, rare archive film and even the private 'home movies' and photographs of SAS personnel, while ex-SAS veterans provide their own graphic first hand accounts of what it was like to undertake covert missions in places as diverse as Malaya and Northern Ireland. Further fascinating insight into the secret world of the SAS is provided by Denis Healey, who deployed them while Defence Secretary, Tony Geraghty, author of Who Dares Wins, and Adrian Weale, author of Secret Warfare. For the first time, this is the real story of the SAS. __________ As a side note, IMDB lists the running time as 60 minutes but this 2-disc set actually contains 4 60-minute programmes.

- StarsMichael WoodJohn ChadwickColin RenfrewOver six hour-long programs, Michael Wood marshals the disparate strands of evidence to present as fully rounded a portrait as possible of both the historical and the legendary city of Troy, its central place in Western culture, and the Mycenaean Age itself. From Schliemann's initial cavalier bulldozing of the mound at Hisarlik, to Homer's epics, the Hittite Empire, and the role of slave women, Wood journeys back and forth across the Aegean and elsewhere, from a pre-unification Berlin to Liverpool, to illuminate the dawn of Western literature, myth, and history. Did the Trojan war ever happen, or was the city destroyed by natural causes? Wood doesn't claim to find a definitive answer, of course, but for the viewer it's rewarding enough simply to accompany him on this fascinating journey.

- DirectorRichard SchickelStarsCharles ChaplinSydney PollackBill IrwinNarrated by Sydney Pollack, film critic Richard Schickel's dazzling two-hour plus documentary to one of the towering figures in film: Charles Chaplin. Hardcore Chaplin fans may not find much new material here, but more unfamiliar admirers will gain some valuable information about one of the most famous personalities of the 20th century. Schickel has constructed the documentary as a chronological survey of Chaplin's work, starting with his most significant shorts and covering all of his features. Schickel supports his narration with testimony from artists familiar with Chaplin's work and family members who offer personal insights into the comedian's life. The documentary plays down but doesn't ignore the controversies that swirled around Chaplin's private life. But the main focus is on the films. They include some of the best-loved movies of all time. Clips from "Kid Auto Races at Venice," the 1914 Keystone short in which Chaplin first used his Tramp costume, reveal a startlingly modern technique and sensibility, as if the filmmakers were predicting and mocking reality TV. Subsequent shorts show Chaplin refining his 'Little Tramp' character while absorbing the essentials of filmmaking. By the time he made "Easy Street," in 1917, Chaplin had perfected a combination of knockabout farce and Victorian sentiment that still proves irresistible. Chaplin's early features, including "The Kid," "The Gold Rush" and "City Lights," were such blockbuster hits that he could essentially ignore the coming of sound for almost a decade. Those making appearances on the program include Woody Allen, Richard Attenborough, Jeanine Basinger, Claire Bloom, Geraldine Chaplin. Sydney Chaplin, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Milos Forman, Bill Irwin, Norman Lloyd, Marcel Marceau, David Raksin, David Robinson, Andrew Sarris, Martin Scorsese and Jeffrey Vance.
