- DirectorJonathan FrakesStarsPatrick StewartJonathan FrakesBrent SpinerThe Borg travel back in time intent on preventing Earth's first contact with an alien species. Captain Picard and his crew pursue them to ensure that Zefram Cochrane makes his maiden flight reaching warp speed.Picard.
Picard Picard Picard.
Borg.
Some of the very best episodes of the show were about (or simply referred to) the Borg. Unequivocally, they are the greatest villains of the Trekverse. Data reaches moments of humanity and kicks ass while doing so. Worf is a one-Klingon wrecking crew. This film is the most frightening of the franchise, but also has its best acting. Alfre Woodard is a great addition. Also, Troi drunk is priceless; Picard getting his white whale is even better. - DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsChris PineZachary QuintoSimon PeggThe brash James T. Kirk tries to live up to his father's legacy with Mr. Spock keeping him in check as a vengeful Romulan from the future creates black holes to destroy the Federation one planet at a time. The watchability of this one is very high. I saw it in theaters six times. I've seen it on DVD at least 20 times since. The franchise sheds much of its sterility, and its pacing is impeccable; easily the most compelling as well.
- DirectorNicholas MeyerStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyOn the eve of retirement, Kirk and McCoy are charged with assassinating the Klingon High Chancellor and imprisoned. The Enterprise crew must help them escape to thwart a conspiracy aimed at sabotaging the last best hope for peace. The most clever of the franchise and of all the films, I love the themes of this one the most. Fantastic acting by Christopher Plummer puts it nearly on par with Khan. Plus, the Klingons claim Shakespeare as their own. Who'd have thought?
And the Michael Dorn cameo is very much appreciated. - DirectorNicholas MeyerStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyWith the assistance of the Enterprise crew, Admiral Kirk must stop an old nemesis, Khan Noonien Singh, from using the life-generating Genesis Device as the ultimate weapon. At the top of most rankings and the one that all the others want to emulate. It also has some of the most quotable lines. Great movie, but it does not hold up to time as well as we would like and some of the performances detract from that endurance.
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsChris PineZachary QuintoZoe SaldanaAfter the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.Benedict Cumberbatch is so much more menacing as Khan as to make Ricardo Montebaln look like a cartoon. The movie harkens to II a bit too much toward the end, but all accounted for it is superior to Wrath of Khan.
- DirectorLeonard NimoyStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyTo save Earth from an alien probe, Admiral James T. Kirk and his fugitive crew go back in time to San Francisco in 1986 to retrieve the only beings who can communicate with it: humpback whales. The first entry I actually saw in the theater and the most accessible to an eight-year-old. Very dated, but very likeable. Also--the idea of salvaging the future is a lesson I wish we would take more seriously now, 27 years later.
- DirectorLeonard NimoyStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyAdmiral Kirk and his bridge crew risk their careers stealing the decommissioned U.S.S. Enterprise to return to the restricted Genesis Planet to recover Spock's body.Definitely a companion piece to II. Good mediocre Trek entry...but still better than most movies. Some great Nimoy here.
- DirectorRobert WiseStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyWhen an alien spacecraft of enormous power is spotted approaching Earth, Admiral James T. Kirk resumes command of the overhauled USS Enterprise in order to intercept it.It resurrected the franchise, but simultaneously reviled by the masses. It's slow, but I happen to like its wonder and peculiarity. The premise is excellent, if not executed that well.
- DirectorJonathan FrakesStarsPatrick StewartJonathan FrakesBrent SpinerWhen the crew of the Enterprise learn of a Federation conspiracy against the inhabitants of a unique planet, Captain Picard begins an open rebellion.Great it is not. It plays out more like an above average episode of the show. Some great ideas and some solid acting (F. Murray Abraham is so very underrated) do not save it however.
- DirectorStuart BairdStarsPatrick StewartJonathan FrakesBrent SpinerThe Enterprise is diverted to the Romulan homeworld Romulus, supposedly because they want to negotiate a peace treaty. Captain Picard and his crew discover a serious threat to the Federation once Praetor Shinzon plans to attack Earth. At least it gave us a glimpse at the excellent Tom Hardy. The Data prototype story was a distraction (though it was meant to explain Brent Spiner's aging in future installments) and gave the film its most awkward moments (the dune buggy scene, anyone?). I do love that Riker finally weds Troi and gets his own ship. But...that should not have been the best part.
- DirectorDavid CarsonStarsPatrick StewartWilliam ShatnerMalcolm McDowellWith the help of long presumed dead Captain Kirk, Captain Picard must stop a deranged scientist willing to murder on a planetary scale in order to enter a space matrix.I degrade Generations more for its disservice to Kirk & Picard; and Guinan. This movie should have been in the top three, but the cosmic ribbon idea was poor to begin with. If Scotty can be trapped in a transporter for a generation, why couldn't they think of something better for Kirk? Instead, the story had to revolve around the same device that had Kirk and Picard meeting. Also, though I like Malcom MacDowell, his villain was not very engaging.
- DirectorWilliam ShatnerStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyCaptain Kirk and his crew must deal with Mr. Spock's long-lost half-brother who hijacks the Enterprise for an obsessive search for God at the center of the galaxy. The worst of the franchise! Still, I'd rather watch this one over most other movies. I actually like the interactions and dialogue between Bones, Spock, and Kirk, but dialogue does not a Trek film make.
What's more, shortly before Final Frontier, TNG had an episode with some plot points very much in common with this film. Even so, I certainly appreciate this one as a humanist manifesto.
