- DirectorTomm JacobsenMichael RousseletJon SalmonStarsAlec OwenBen GigliOlivia Taylor DudleyIn the wake of two back-to-back mass murders on Chico's frat row, loner Brent Chirino must infiltrate the ranks of a popular fraternity to investigate his twin brother's murder at the hands of the serial killer known as "Motherface."Not sure what to make of this but I think I was entertained by its absolute crass ludicrousness. This is like the result of a demented orgy between RoboCop, Black Dynamite, Evil Dead II and Friday the 13th. 7/10
- DirectorDavid Robert MitchellStarsMaika MonroeKeir GilchristOlivia LuccardiA young woman is followed by an unknown supernatural force after a sexual encounter. While I like the concept just a tad more than I like the film, I still think it's an effective psychological horror film with one hell of a great soundtrack! 7/10
- DirectorRob ReinerStarsJames CaanKathy BatesRichard FarnsworthAfter a famous author is rescued from a car crash by a fan of his novels, he comes to realize that the care he is receiving is only the beginning of a nightmare of captivity and abuse.Having just finished the book before watching the movie, I can say that the film adaptation succeeds as a decent thriller but fails as an adaptation. 6/10
- DirectorSean S. CunninghamStarsBetsy PalmerAdrienne KingJeannine TaylorA group of teenage camp counselors attempt to re-open an abandoned summer camp with a tragic past, but they are stalked by a mysterious, relentless killer.About twenty minutes too long but an okay start. 4/10
- DirectorSteve MinerStarsBetsy PalmerAmy SteelJohn FureyFive years after the events of the first film, a summer camp next to the infamous Camp Crystal Lake is preparing to open, but the legend of Jason is weighing heavy on the proceedings. An improvement over the first, with a more appealing final girl and Jason's establishment as one of my favourite slasher antagonists ever. 5/10
- DirectorSteve MinerStarsDana KimmellTracie SavageRichard BrookerJason Voorhees stalks a group of friends who have just arrived to spend the weekend at a cabin near Crystal Lake.Marred by crappy 3D cash-in attempts and an obnoxious cast. The only good things about this one are the speargun kill and Jason donning the legendary hockey mask. 2/10
- DirectorJoseph ZitoStarsErich AndersonJudie AronsonPeter BartonAfter being announced dead and taken to a morgue, Jason Voorhees spontaneously revives, escapes from the hospital, and stalks a group of friends renting a house in the countryside near Crystal Lake.A big improvement over the previous film and the beginning of what I like to call the Tommy Jarvis Trilogy. 5/10
- DirectorWes CravenStarsHeather LangenkampJohnny DeppRobert EnglundTeenager Nancy Thompson must uncover the dark truth concealed by her parents after she and her friends become targets of the spirit of a serial killer with a bladed glove in their dreams, in which if they die, it kills them in real life.A classic! One of my favourite slashers with a psychological horror element unique to its franchise. 8/10
- DirectorDanny SteinmannStarsMelanie KinnamanJohn ShepherdAnthony BarrileStill haunted by his past, Tommy Jarvis, who, as a child, killed Jason Voorhees, is sent to a secluded halfway house in the countryside, where the killing of a young man triggers a brutal series of murders in the area.A mediocre follow-up to Part IV, with a badly executed twist and annoying characters. 2/10
- DirectorJack SholderStarsRobert EnglundMark PattonKim MyersA teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger, who is out to possess him in order to continue his reign of terror in the real world.A not-so-great sequel that doesn't live up to the original but still brings some interesting ideas to the table. 5/10
- DirectorTom McLoughlinStarsThom MathewsJennifer CookeDavid KagenTommy Jarvis exhumes Jason Voorhees to cremate his corpse, but inadvertently brings him back to life instead. The newly revived killer seeks revenge, and Tommy may be the only one who can stop him.The best of the series in my opinion, with its self-aware humour and hilarious opening scene, as well as its tendency to subvert certain slasher cliches. 6/10
- DirectorChuck RussellStarsHeather LangenkampRobert EnglundCraig WassonA psychiatrist familiar with knife-wielding dream demon Freddy Krueger helps teens at a mental hospital battle the killer who is invading their dreams. An improvement over Freddy's Revenge, Wes Craven takes his series back to more cerebral directions, although some of his characters and effects have not aged well... 6/10
- DirectorJohn Carl BuechlerStarsTerry KiserJennifer BankoJohn OtrinJason Voorhees is accidentally freed from his watery prison by a telekinetic teenager. Now, only she can stop him.A forgettable entry, though Jason's battles with the Carrie ripoff are pretty amusing. 5/10
- DirectorRenny HarlinStarsRobert EnglundRodney EastmanJohn BeckmanFreddy Krueger returns once again to terrorize the dreams of the remaining Dream Warriors, as well as those of a young woman who may be able to defeat him for good.An interesting sequel that is neither good nor bad, The Dream Master brings along a few more interesting concepts into the franchise, even if it's slightly marred by poor execution in some spots. 5/10
- DirectorRob HeddenStarsJensen DaggettKane HodderTodd CaldecottJason Voorhees is accidentally awakened from his watery grave and ends up stalking a ship full of graduating high-school students headed to Manhattan, New York.I can't help but enjoy this film more than most, if only because it's hilarious in its badness, rather than dull and slogging (like Parts III or V). The New York portion should have been longer, but hey, what we got wasn't entirely disappointing. 3/10
- DirectorStephen HopkinsStarsRobert EnglundLisa WilcoxKelly Jo MinterThe pregnant Alice finds Freddy Krueger striking through the sleeping mind of her unborn child, hoping to be reborn into the real world.Another interesting and slightly disturbing entry in the franchise that isn't entirely great, but hey, the ideas are fresh and new (somewhat) and the set designs are ingenious. 5/10
- DirectorRachel TalalayStarsRobert EnglundLisa ZaneShon GreenblattDream-haunting Freddy Krueger returns once again to prowl the nightmares of Springwood's last surviving teenager, and of a woman whose personal connection to Krueger may mean his doom.Complete crap. 1/10
- DirectorAdam MarcusStarsJohn D. LeMayKari KeeganKane HodderSerial killer Jason Voorhees' supernatural origins are revealed.Aside from a few fun shootouts and a promising opening sequence, Jason Goes to Hell is a dumb slog. 2/10
- DirectorWes CravenStarsHeather LangenkampRobert EnglundJf DavisA demonic force has chosen Freddy Krueger as its portal to the real world. Can Heather Langenkamp play the part of Nancy one last time and trap the evil trying to enter our world?A return to form for the franchise and the best of the Elm Street sequels! 7/10
- DirectorJames IsaacStarsKane HodderLexa DoigJeff GeddisJason Voorhees is cryogenically frozen at the beginning of the 21st century, and is discovered in the 25th century and taken to space. He gets thawed, and begins stalking and killing the crew of the spaceship that's transporting him.Only slightly more fun to watch than Jason Goes to Hell, if only for that sleeping bag scene and the sheer outdated stupidity of it all. 2/10
- DirectorRonny YuStarsRobert EnglundKen KirzingerKelly RowlandFreddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees return to terrorize the teenagers of Elm Street. Only this time, they're out to get each other, too.More fun than it has any right to be. 5/10
- DirectorMarcus NispelStarsJared PadaleckiAmanda RighettiDerek MearsA group of young adults visit a boarded up campsite named Crystal Lake where they soon encounter the mysterious Jason Voorhees and his deadly intentions.Probably the best thing that Michael Bay was ever involved in.
Which isn't saying much... 5/10 - DirectorSamuel BayerStarsJackie Earle HaleyRooney MaraKyle GallnerThe spectre of a disfigured man haunts the children of the parents who murdered him, stalking and killing them in their dreams.A piss-poor remake to a great original. 2/10
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsDonald PleasenceJamie Lee CurtisTony MoranFifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.A classic, what else can I say? 8/10
- DirectorRick RosenthalStarsJamie Lee CurtisDonald PleasenceCharles CyphersWhile Dr. Loomis hunts for Michael Myers, a traumatized Laurie is rushed to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, and The Shape is not far behind her.A not-so-worthy sequel to the original. 5/10
- DirectorTommy Lee WallaceStarsTom AtkinsStacey NelkinDan O'HerlihyKids all over America want Silver Shamrock masks for Halloween. Doctor Daniel Challis seeks to uncover a plot by Silver Shamrock owner Conal Cochran.Cool concept. Unfortunate execution. Dan O'Herlihy was great, though. 4/10
- DirectorDwight H. LittleStarsDonald PleasenceEllie CornellDanielle HarrisTen years after his original massacre, the invalid Michael Myers awakens on Halloween Eve and returns to Haddonfield to kill his seven-year-old niece. Can Dr. Loomis stop him? While it's loaded with the same old slasher genre stupidity, this one has some surprisingly smart characters (sometimes). I always joked about how people should just look at the place the killer is in, go "Nope!" and leave town. There was that, and there was a little freshness in its execution along the way. Far from perfect, but not bad, not bad at all... 6/10
- DirectorDominique Othenin-GirardStarsDonald PleasenceDanielle HarrisEllie CornellOne year after the events of Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), the Shape returns to Haddonfield once again in an attempt to kill his now-mute niece.Aaaaaaaand we're given a continuation that's worse than anything in the series so far. Sigh. 3/10.
- DirectorDavid Gordon GreenStarsJamie Lee CurtisJudy GreerAndi MatichakLaurie Strode confronts her long-time foe, Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.Just came back from the theatres after seeing this and I'm happy to say that this is a worthy successor to the original. The few gripes I have with it are pretty mild; it's overall a great time at the movies. 7/10.
- DirectorJoe ChappelleStarsDonald PleasencePaul RuddMarianne HaganSix years after Michael Myers last terrorized Haddonfield, he returns there in pursuit of his niece, Jamie Lloyd, who has escaped with her newborn child, for which Michael and a mysterious cult have sinister plans.Dull, lifeless trash. 1/10
- DirectorSteve MinerStarsJamie Lee CurtisJosh HartnettAdam ArkinLaurie Strode, now the dean of a Northern California private school with an assumed name, must battle the Shape one last time, as the life of her own son hangs in the balance. One of the more entertaining sequels, but not a great film on its own. 5/10
