Greatest Bollywood Movies Of All Time
Highly plagiarized movies like Sholay which are otherwise considered great have been omitted.
If you find any other movie in the list which is Mahesh Bhattized then kindly bring it to notice as every Bollywood movie can very well be a copy of some movie which came out in Hong Kong in the 40s.
Many so called critically acclaimed 'Art' movies have been excluded as well.
While watching an Indian movie keep in mind that the Indian audience is not as evolved as the audience in US or some other first world country.
Think about the kind of passion for cinema some directors and producers must have had when they made movies which had negligible odds of even breaking even at the box office, a good example would be Kaagaz Ke Phool.
So be a bit partial with the movies in this list otherwise a movie like Pakeezah might appear to you a bland and inferior movie, which to a good extent it is but a milestone for Indian Cinema notwithstanding.
And why is it a problem when scenes or complete stories are copied in Bollywood while as you might argue that it happens in Hollywood and elsewhere as well. In Hollywood when there is a scene or script that has similarities to an earlier movie, the audience knows it most or maybe all the times. Many a times it is an ode to someone or something great which came before(Tarantino does it all the time) but on the other hand in Bollywood the intent is to steal an idea and then pass it off as your own ingenuity(as outside the metros the audience has negligible exposure to World Cinema) and then be considered greats or legends(only in India) on the very basis of that loot and thus also creating barriers for genuine people.
*Most movies in this list could have been an hour or more shorter, because in Bollywood distributers, producers and actors decide the length of a movie. "You say Walter Murch one more time, I dare you, I double dare you."
*Songs are an intrinsic part of Bollywood movies, just the way it was in the Hollywood through 30s till 50s. When you hear a song whose melody seems copied, don't lose your mind only that it is a cover version and the music director forgot to tell you that because 'Dekho Ab To Kisiko Nahi Hai Khabar'(the lyrics of this song give a new meaning to the word appropriate).
You might be wondering as to why the quality of Bollywood movies has been falling. More and more Indians are watching Hollywood movies, especially in the metros. Now the directors and producers in Bombay who are blessed with prodigal talent and fast internet connections are smart enough to realize that they can not make this bracket of cinegoers watch there movies no matter how good they try to make their movies. Therefore they don't have to make their movies even half as good for this audience as they would have had to. So there only audience is the people whose favourite movie is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and who still call Leonardo Dicaprio, Titanic wala hero.
The movies are not listed in any order.
