- DirectorRichard LesterStarsHelen ShapiroCraig DouglasJohn LeytonTwo teens organize a jazz festival despite objections from the mayor.Lester's brainy sight gags inside the radio station presage the pop-culture blast that he and the Fab Four would deliver two years later.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsMargaret RutherfordRon MoodyBernard CribbinsA tiny country persuades the Americans and Soviets that they're starting a space program, when they really just want some money for new plumbing.Early Richard Lester film that suggests the fireworks to soon come with his Beatle films
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsJohn LennonPaul McCartneyGeorge HarrisonOver two "typical" days in the life of The Beatles, the boys struggle to keep themselves and Sir Paul McCartney's mischievous grandfather in check while preparing for a live TV performance.A Hard Day's Night, despite its age, is still a delight to watch and has proven itself to be a rock-and-roll movie classic.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsRita TushinghamRay BrooksMichael CrawfordA young school teacher tries to master the art of flirtation using his neighbor's skills.Embarrassingly crude and dated Swinging Sixties tale.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsJohn LennonPaul McCartneyGeorge HarrisonSir Ringo Starr finds himself the human sacrifice target of a cult, and his fellow members of The Beatles must try to protect him from it.For casual viewers, the whole thing has a retro charm. For Beatles fans, it's a flawed but essential film.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsZero MostelPhil SilversBuster KeatonA wily Roman slave schemes to earn his freedom by romantically uniting his master with a courtesan. But matters get complicated and he ends up dragging in his neighbors around him, leading to chaos.Humorous to an extent, but lacking the bang you might expect from a big screen musical.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsMichael CrawfordJohn LennonRoy KinnearAn inept British World War II commander leads his troops through a series of misadventures in North Africa and Europe.I got no impression from this film that Lester really, personally, cares very strongly one way or the other about war. It was only a currently fashionable subject, a good excuse to make a movie.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsJulie ChristieGeorge C. ScottRichard ChamberlainAn unhappily married socialite finds solace in the company of a recently divorced doctor."Petulia" made me desperately unhappy, and yet I am unable to find a single thing wrong with it.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsRita TushinghamRalph RichardsonPeter CookIn post-nuclear-holocaust England, a handful of bizarre characters struggles on with their lives in the ruins, among endless heaps of ash, piles of broken crockery and brick, muddy plains, and heaps of dentures and old boots. Patriotically singing "God Save Mrs. Ethel Shroake, Long Live Mrs. Ethel Shroake", they wander through this surrealistic landscape, forever being warned by the police to "keep moving", and prone to the occasional mutation into a parrot, cupboard, or even--yes, a bed-sitting room with "No Wogs" scrawled in the grime on its windows. In particular, this story revolves around the odd "love story" of a girl who lives with her parents in one compartment of a London Underground train, the commuter in the next compartment, and the doctor they meet after returning above ground in search of a nurse for the heavily-pregnant girl.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsOliver ReedRaquel WelchRichard ChamberlainA young swordsman comes to Paris and faces villains, romance, adventure and intrigue with three Musketeer friends.Lester has crafted here the most inventive and wildly enjoyable version of The Three Musketeers ever committed to film.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsRichard HarrisOmar SharifDavid HemmingsA blackmailer demands a huge ransom in exchange for information on how to disarm the seven bombs he placed aboard the transatlantic liner Britannic.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsMichael YorkRaquel WelchOliver ReedThe Four Musketeers defend the queen and her dressmaker from Cardinal Richelieu and Milady de Winter. It's too much of the same material, spun out into a wearying series of sword fights and romances.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsMalcolm McDowellAlan BatesFlorinda BolkanNe'er-do-well Captain Harry Flashman (Malcolm McDowell) is coerced by Otto Von Bismarck (Oliver Reed) into impersonating a Prince.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsSean ConneryAudrey HepburnRobert ShawRobin Hood, aging none too gracefully, returns exhausted from the Crusades to woo and win Maid Marian one last time.Connery and Hepburn seem to have arrived at a tacit understanding between themselves about their characters. They glow. They really do seem in love. And they project as marvelously complex, fond, tender people.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsJack WestonRita MorenoJerry StillerEvading a mob contract on his life, a heterosexual man winds up hiding out at a homosexual bathhouse.Lester's direction is erratic, the movie lunges forward and then hits dead spots, and the final 10 minutes seem to take forever to dispose of various plot points.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsWilliam KattTom BerengerJeff CoreyA prequel of sorts to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) which chronicles the two outlaws' lives in the years before the events portrayed in the 1969 movie.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsSean ConneryBrooke AdamsJack WestonA British mercenary arrives in pre-Revolution Cuba to help train General Batista's Army against Castro's guerrillas while he also romances a former lover now married to an unscrupulous plantation owner.Incoherent look at life for the upper-crusts during the turbulent last days of the corrupt Batista regime.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsGene HackmanChristopher ReeveMargot KidderSuperman agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with Lois Lane, unaware that three Kryptonian criminals he inadvertently released are conquering Earth. The humor occasionally stumbles into slapstick territory, and the special effects are dated, but Superman II meets, if not exceeds, the standard set by its predecessor.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsChristopher ReeveRichard PryorMargot KidderSynthetic kryptonite laced with tar splits Superman in two: good Clark Kent and bad Man of Steel. When not overusing sight gags, slapstick, and Richard Pryor, Superman III resorts to plot points rehashed from the previous Superman flicks.
