2011/2012 - Sequels, Prequels, Remakes & Reboots
In 2011 and 2012, a great many films will continue a franchise's growing tale or legacy, or reboot the entire thing. There may be some unexpected prequels or sequels or remakes or new faces to add to the comic book movie world...but in all, I think these next two years of film are looking really good.

- DirectorWes CravenStarsNeve CampbellCourteney CoxDavid ArquetteTen years have passed, and Sidney Prescott, who has put herself back together thanks in part to her writing, is visited by the Ghostface Killer.Ten years after Scream 3, Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox come back with Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson to make Scream 4. It has been demanded from fans, and I've wanted one, for the last eleven years. This is definitely my most looked-forward-to movie of 2011.
- DirectorMike DisaStarsHayden PanettiereGlenn ClosePatrick WarburtonRed Riding Hood is training in the group of Sister Hoods, when she and the Wolf are called to examine the sudden mysterious disappearance of Hansel and Gretel.I've been craving this sequel for 4 years. I've wanted it to be released for a long time. I heard about a sequel in 2009 to be released in 2010. I checked in 2010 and it was pushed back and back and now it's finally going to happen. I'm excited, even if Anne Hathaway is gone. I'm still going to show up for this in April! Patrick Warburton is awesome, and I can't wait to hear more of his comedy!
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane.Christopher Nolan's Inception has turned me into a huge Nolan fan. I have no doubts that his third chapter will be decent. Nolan knows how to articulate his brother's writing and Batman's character theme better than anyone. Despite my uncertainty of Anne Hathaway's casting, I believe Nolan will surprise me - and everyone else - once again. I have my confidence in Chris.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth.I've never seen a Superman-based movie. I've watched Smallville and I enjoyed the adaptation very much, to make me a fan of the superhero. However, I don't think I will go and view the original films as this film looks to be the definitive Superman film with Zach Snyder behind the helm and Christopher Nolan as a producer.
- DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsChris EvansHugo WeavingSamuel L. JacksonSteve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization.Chris Evans? Really? Well, I really can't say it's an awful choice as Chris has played a superhero as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four and he was also a superhero type in Push. I don't think it's a death certificate, but I'm curious, more so than anything, to see how he plays Captain America. It should be an interesting film.
- DirectorHenry JoostAriel SchulmanStarsChloe CsengeryJessica Tyler BrownChristopher Nicholas SmithIn 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity called Toby, who resides in their home.Eh, it might not be as good as the first two. Rarely does a third chapter perform well, but, we might have a good movie here. I certainly won't expect a miracle, but I won't be expecting a terrible movie such as Spiderman 3
- DirectorCraig GillespieStarsAnton YelchinColin FarrellDavid Tennant"Fright Night" - A new neighbor moves in next to Charley, who discovers that he is an ancient vampire who preys on the community. Can he save his neighborhood from the creature with the help of the famous "vampire killer", Peter Vincent? This was an 80s vampire movie that has been mocked by many people I know. For being kind of a b-movie and having a lot of cheesiness included, I think it's due-up for a reboot. Fright Night is a movie that, perhaps made properly in 2011, can put Twilight to shame.
- DirectorJeff WadlowStarsAaron Taylor-JohnsonChloë Grace MoretzChristopher Mintz-PlasseFollowing Kick-Ass' heroics, other citizens are inspired to become masked crusaders, but Red Mist leads his own group of evil super-villains to get revenge, kill Kick-Ass, and destroy everything he stands for.I'm hoping this gets filmed soon and released in 2012, as stated. I've heard absolutely nothing about the development of the script or even if there is a script going to be written. I'm hoping this movie comes out because I want more of Hit-Girl, and more importantly, Chloe Moretz. But, with her quick-aging puberty I'm sure she'll be an average teen by time this is filmed and it will be deemed too late.
- DirectorMalcolm D. LeeDavid ZuckerStarsSimon RexAshley TisdaleCharlie SheenA couple begin to experience some unusual activity after bringing their lost nieces and nephew home. With the help of home-surveillance cameras, they learn they're being stalked by a nefarious demon. Finally! Scary Movie 5 means that there will finally be another funny parody movie coming out! I'm sick of these parody movies by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer coming out and gaining praise for their so-called 'comedy.' I'm sure that Wayans brothers or maybe Craig Mazin will pen the script and give us something we've been waiting for, for years.
- DirectorTodd PhillipsStarsBradley CooperZach GalifianakisEd HelmsTwo years after the bachelor party in Las Vegas, Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug jet to Thailand for Stu's wedding. Stu's plan for a subdued pre-wedding brunch, however, goes seriously awry.I finally saw the Hangover in 2010, thanks to my girlfriend. I wasn't all together blown away by the comedy in it. Most people praise it as their favourite comedy, claiming it to be "funniest film they've ever seen." I still think Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail is the funniest film of all time, but that's me? Hangover Part II may merit some more laughs and it's great for seeing more of Bradley Cooper, of course
- DirectorPaul FeigStarsMelissa McCarthyKristen WiigKate McKinnonFollowing a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.Bill Murray and Harold Ramis hadn't spoken since 1993 after production of Groundhog Day had wrapped up. Now, they are back with Dan Akyroyd and the rest of the gang (minus retired-now Rick Moranis) for another Ghostbusters. Rumors last year was that the film could be a remake/reboot of the franchise, but now I guess it's going to be a sequel. It could be a decent film, actually. I'm hopeful.
- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneRhys IfansAfter Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe.As glad as I am about Spider-Man being fixed, I am unsure about the casting. I can't envision neither Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy nor Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man - hell, or even as Peter Parker.
I certainly hope I am caught off guard and surprised. I like the picture I am seeing of Andrew in the spidey suit. I hope he's as good in the film as he was in The Social Network as Edwardo Saverin. - DirectorJennifer Yuh NelsonStarsJack BlackAngelina JolieJackie ChanPo and his friends fight to stop a peacock villain from conquering China with a deadly new weapon, but first the Dragon Warrior must come to terms with his past.I'm not exactly pumped to see it. I wasn't a huge fan of the first, but it might be decent enough to catch in theatres. Who knows, maybe this is the one to make me a big fan of the growing franchise.
- DirectorAndy MuschiettiStarsBill SkarsgårdJaeden MartellFinn WolfhardIn the summer of 1989, a group of bullied kids band together to destroy a shape-shifting monster, which disguises itself as a clown and preys on the children of Derry, their small Maine town. This is a horrible decision, I think. Much like the reboot of The Crow due for 2013, I will say these simple words: "you can't make better what's already perfect." Tim Curry will always be the scariest clown of all time as Pennywise. This story cannot be redone and it certainly cannot be done in a short (under 3-hours) movie.
- DirectorRupert WyattStarsJames FrancoAndy SerkisFreida PintoA substance designed to help the brain repair itself gives advanced intelligence to a chimpanzee who leads an ape uprising. This could be interesting, despite my dismay at Andy Serkis being the main ape in the film. James Franco as the lead? I don't know about that thought. I mean, he's not really an a-lister and not really a leading role kind of guy. I have doubts about his ability to pull of a movie of this magnitude and especially if this is a remake/reboot of an iconic franchise.
- DirectorSimon WestStarsSylvester StalloneLiam HemsworthRandy CoutureMr. Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.I'm on the fence with my overall view of the Expendables sequel. (1) I am hoping this is not just a sequel with a similar story. I want more than just different actors. (2) Maybe now that Schwarzenegger is done being the governator, maybe now he will do the sequel full-time and go back to what he's great at. (3) Don't cast the wrong actors Stallone. I'm not a big fan of Jean-Claude. I'm just saying.
- DirectorDan ScanlonStarsBilly CrystalJohn GoodmanSteve BuscemiA look at the relationship between Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sully" Sullivan during their days at Monsters University, when they weren't necessarily the best of friends. You can probably bet your bottom's dollar that this one won't be anywhere near as good as the original. It has been over twelve years since Mary Gibbs was the cute little two-year old Boo. She's now in her teens and no longer has that cute voice she had. Plot of Monsters Inc. 2 is following Mike and Sulley at college. Boo is a bit older now, so I'm guessing this won't be as adorable or have the same effect as the first.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsShia LaBeoufRosie Huntington-WhiteleyTyrese GibsonThe Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets.Transformers 2 was utter trash and hopefully with Megan Fox gone, this movie can redeem the trilogy and give some fans some happiness. I for one lost hope in the trilogy after the second, but I got some back when I heard the horrible actress Fox was not going to appear. Perhaps with some new writers and a new actress we can end this thing on a strong note!
- DirectorJustin LinStarsVin DieselPaul WalkerDwayne JohnsonDominic Toretto and his crew of street racers plan a massive heist to buy their freedom while in the sights of a powerful Brazilian drug lord and a dangerous federal agent.I have doubts about this new Fast & Furious sequel for the simple fact of one name attached to the project: Dwayne Johnson. "The Rock" is not an actor, he's a wrestler. He can't act worth a damn. I hate almost every one of his movies and the one I can tolerate is due to the storyline. I want to like this movie, and I'm sure I will see it, but I hope that it's worth it. I hope this doesn't make me hate the franchise.
