Satoru, still lives within the apartment complex only, but, as time passes, more of his friends leave.

He's obsessed with never becoming in debt to another person. One day, Kou falls into the Arakawa River and is saved by homeless girl Nino (Mirei Kiritani). Kou is in debt to Nino for saving his life. With his obsession over never owing something to another person, Kou asks Nino if there is any way he can pay her back. The girl doesn't want anything. Kou persists in paying back his debt to her and finally Nino asks Kou to love her. Kou will then start to live under the Arakawa River bridge with Nino and other homeless persons.
- Kou Ichinomiya has always lived according to the creed of his wealthy, successful family: never be in debt to anyone. But one day, under the Arakawa Bridge, his life is saved by a homeless girl named Nino. In order to pay her back, Kou promises to be her boyfriend; and thus begins his new life under the bridge.
- A son quits his job and is persuaded by his father to head off to a cottage in the remote mountains. Together, the two of them manage to get through their days while wearing old jerseys left by a deceased grandmother. The following summer, the two once again leave the stifling heat of Tokyo, as if escaping to the mountain cottage. However, the next summer is very different.
- The film stars Ken Mitsuishi as a 50-year-old single father named Miyata Junichi. Back in junior high, Junichi was bullied and made a promise to himself that he would grow up to be really cool. Junichi has been raising his two children, an unemployed 19-year-old named Toshiya (Morioka Ryu) and an 18-year-old high school senior named Momoko (Yoshinaga Jun) on his own since his wife died of cancer 15 years earlier. He works extremely hard as a truck driver to buy whatever he thinks his kids want; and even though money is tight, he never lets it show. One day, Junichi feels ill and becomes obsessed with the idea that he may be dying of cancer like his wife. Convinced his life will soon be ending, he begins putting his affairs in order and borrows tuition money from his best friend and only confidant, Sanada (Taguchi Tomorowo). However, in his never-ending attempt to be a cool adult, he refuses to burden his children with any of his problems.
