- Michael Holmes, has traveled to Iraq to cover the war eight times since it began. He has reported on every stage of the war since, and escaped death in January 2004 when his two-car CNN convoy was ambushed south of Baghdad. Two CNN staff were killed and one wounded in the attack. In January he returned with a plan to show more than the daily carnage, or routine reporting. He was tasked with developing an hour-long documentary looking behind the scenes of the carnage, to put a human face on the victims, put context to numbers, as well as give viewers a taste of how the news is gathered. The piece was tentatively tagged Month of Mayhem. The sad irony is it turned out to be just that one of the bloodiest months of the war. Holmes and his crew embedded with US and Iraqi troops, and traveled independently where possible to report on the suffering of Iraqs civilians, as well as the life and death choices made by often imperfect soldiers. Iraq is the most dangerous and difficult - place on earth for journalists, but moreso for Iraqi civilians. Month of Mayhem strived to show their suffering and the everyday risks they take as they attempt to live their lives. Holmes plans to return for his ninth visit in October.
