- An insanely, egocentric ventriloquist, even though he is possessed by his wooden dummy, is in love with a dancer who is in love with another. The dummy gives advice to the ventriloquist.

Eddie is framed for murder by a gangster and sent to prison. He keeps the fact of his arrest secret from Betty, who believes he has left her. Jake makes a play for Betty, which makes Daisy jealous. Jake and Daisy quarrel and he is about to strangle her when her young blind son shoots and kills him. Pete, another gangster, gets Betty drunk. He wants to spend the night with her and, when Daisy tries to prevent him, he threatens to tell the police who really killed Jake. Meanwhile, Eddie has been released from jail, and when he returns to find Betty drunk with Pete, he is disgusted. Jake's brother, thinking that Eddie murdered Jake, tries to shoot him, but Daisy tells him that Pete killed his brother. The brother kills Pete, then dies shortly afterward of a wound inflicted by Pete. With her son in the clear, Daisy helps Eddie and Betty reunite.
- Olive Borden plays a modern jazz maiden who is forced to be good for six months or lose out on her grandfather's inheritance.
- Mahyna, a dissatisfied Russian peasant girl, marries Boris and comes to New York in search of "the soul of love," only to become a drudge in their cheap flat. Meanwhile, Boris, a bookshop keeper, dreams of a prosperous future from the book he is writing. Their boarder, Dave, a partner in a gambling establishment, makes a play for Mahyna; she is tempted to leave with him when Eddie, a former admirer, arrives on the scene, and the two get into constant arguments over her. A year later, she is married to Dave, and it is agreed that Boris will live with them. Boris becomes well-to-do with the sale of his book and begins an affair with Olga, the Happiness Girl on radio. A series of complications ensue, as the unreliable Eddie returns to renew his suit and Dave is involved in a murder case. Ditched by both men, Mahyna at last finds that Boris is indeed her only true love.
- When Vera and Bud, a young married couple, become financially hard pressed, Vera accepts an offer from Mrs. Holmes, a rich matron who wishes Vera to impersonate her in Reno to fulfill the residence requirements for her divorce. When Bud finds she has gone to Reno, he immediately suspects that she plans to divorce him. Mr. Holmes goes to Reno, hoping to effect a last-minute reconciliation, discovers Vera's impersonation, and threatens to have her arrested for fraud if she leaves before the 3-month period is up. He unpacks and prepares to remain with her. Mrs. Holmes and Bud arrive, and both couples are happily reconciled after Bud discovers that Holmes is the very man with whom he wishes to renew a contract that will improve his and Vera's finances.
