When he tries to dispel her misgivings about the difference in social status - after all, nobody needs to know that she is the daughter of a garbage man - Annika feels even more humiliated and takes off with her father. Hannes is initially proud of his daughter, who has shown so much backbone. However, when he realizes that she and Alexander actually love each other, he takes matters into his own hands - in his own way.

The family finally fears deportation to a concentration camp and hides in a cellar in inhuman conditions.
